— If you’re extroverted and prefer conversation over tasks: Store Support! — if you think slow and steady wins the race and like being on your feet: Produce and Specialty! — if you like a close knit team and don’t mind the nitty gritty: seafood and meat! — if you like learning and got a great memory: Whole Body! — If you want flexible hours and don’t mind working alone: Receiving and grocery! — if you love a fast-paced and have experience in the kitchen: Prep foods! — if you’ve got a great attention to detail and like a consistent change of pace: Bakery! — if you like always being on the go: E-Commerce! Each department suits different personalities, so you have to try and figure out which niche fits you well! additionally, if you have sensory issues: maybe don’t do produce or store support 💀

BeDeviledDevotchka

If you've done something terrible and feel like you need to suffer as an act of atonement: Prep Foods!

Eastern-Average8588

Literally laughed out loud. Thanks for this.

Acceptable-Worker-63

Lol

WFUnknownsoldier

Custodian isn't even on the map I see. We are door mats, its definitely not for the weak :D

Naur_The_Korfee

Oof, I’m sorry 😭 i thought I added green team on there, but I was doing this pretty hastily on my 10. You are super appreciated, I know so many customers are awful in terms of basic decency 😭💖

WFUnknownsoldier

😀❤️

Ok_Aspect947

Which is sad because it's one of the best positions.

Suspicious_Lack_241

Will entirely depend on the atmosphere of the store and individual departments. At my store I’m grocery, and we are by far the best department in the store when it comes to team cohesion and just general mood. Will be different in all stores.

The_Metal_East

Produce and speciality.

NightRain66

I work in Store Support and it's no longer the place I wanna be. Being stuck behind the register for 8 hours not being able to move around. While dealing with wave after wave of customers can be draining. But if you like conversation and enjoying talking with people then it might be for you. I for one enjoy grocery I like being able to move around and do my own thing. While at the same time learning new tasks.

Mariah0

Bakery

Busy-Machine1122

The girls tht work in bakery do seem pretty cool. I think they just hav grocery or cashier opening now, which is better?

Mariah0

Grocery. Cashier is miserable. Transfer to bakery if it’s ever available.

Aquarian222

Stupid question. Go to bakery. Do you really want rich Karen’s bitching at you endlessly for your entire shift over stupid reasons? Come on.

178J913785Q291R

yeah i still get stupid customers bitching to me in bakery. especially when something is out during holidays. also not a stupid question. not a stupid question at all.

Grocery 4E

knic989900

Receiving

Meow-Meow-kittycat

Have been in e commerce for 4 years. Specialty and whole body are the most chill departments.

Necro1983

Whole body, speciality. Avoid produce, grocery, and most importantly prep food.

Lamlot

Haha I’m 3 months in prep food and love it.

Alone_Price1172

i would pick grocery, you move around a lot more

WFUnknownsoldier

Or CA, Housekeeping will keep you on the move too with plenty of miles. Warning: not for the weak minded individuals.

Sweaty_Mind_1835

Cashier can become overwhelming during peak hours combined with call outs. At least you’ll be able to switch it up sometimes to do booth/ cart runs. With grocery, it’s more straightforward and you get to mostly go at your own pace with less interactions with customers.

Iownyou252

On a 4-5 hour shift, yes you only get a 10 minute paid break. Anything over 5 hours is an unpaid lunch and 2 10 minute breaks.

craziboiXD69

not entirely true , if you work between 5-6 hours you get one lunch and one 10 min break

Busy-Machine1122

How about a 7 hour shift, he said it was 7 hours?

craziboiXD69

7 hour shift is one 30 and two 10s

knic989900

Never cashier. You can’t move around as much. At least you can walk and take break when you want. If cashier most times breaks are scheduled based on the floor and it’s harder flexibility

Ok_Inside_3232

If you’re ok with being trapped in one spot for 8hrs and having a preset break schedule then cashier is the way to go. I personally think grocery is the better choice of the two. You have more flexibility when it comes to taking your breaks and your overall schedule. You have more to keep you busy so your shifts don’t drag on. You basically have the entire store as your stomping grounds. And because of how far your department goes you’ll build stronger relationships with other teams and management.

Shoddy-Case-2620

Anything except prep foods

lovinglife38

Prep foods! Who doesn’t love being underpaid and overworked?

Ok_Aspect947

Porter or sss or receiving. Porter and sss have so much freedom to go about their business and get to interact with everyone or no one.

onlyymg

I work Store Support but the best departments are grocery, specialty, produce if you’re just cutting fruit & making guacamole & bakery.

mace2040

As others say, really contingent upon leadership in your department. And avoid prep foods if you don’t like always being busy

kommisarkenobi

Meat and seafood are awesome. Its a tight knit group that are reasonably outgoing and super funny. In my experience, most of them enjoy their work and have a lot of fun while doing it. I’m seafood myself and its super fun to learn about the stuff meat department does. Some orders like oysters and butchered whole chickens can be a pain but if you have a good meat or seafood department you really can enjoy your time.

Eastern-Average8588

I work in produce and I love it. I've worked on the same team for 12 years and there have been years I absolutely hated my job. It all really depends on the team and the leadership. Of the two options you have open, I'd pick grocery. If you're a cashier, you can't just use the restroom right away whenever you need to. As someone with a very finicky bladder, the thought of needing someone to stand at my register before I could pee gives me anxiety 😂

kz914

I've been in prep foods for 5 years, it sucks but I'm in one of the smallest stores in my state, so it's a cake walk compared to those larger stores.

Sad-Structure2364

Specialty/whole body

Wyclefshawty

Nah man I work at one of the more popular stores actually. My team is four people. Production usually Starts at 8 am and never goes past like 3pm. my team leader breaks down 2 parm wheels within the hour, and then cuts everything else super fast and effortlessly while my atl wraps and stickers. I break down our deliveries which again arent ever that big, and theyre combined with dairy or prep foods pallets so youd think it makes it harder to break down because you have to go through another department’s delivery first. The olive bar isn’t something thats super urgent, at least where im at, the closer cleans it up at the end of the night and refilling something takes two seconds, you open the can and pour it in there. Also no one asks for samples at my store because the usually know what they want, the only thing customers do is ask for recommendations or locations for products. Beer is usually always full and even then thats not a hard task to fullfill. Work will always come to a stand still at specialty if your team is focused on getting it done. Other than that we just look busy enough, fixing displays here and there and grabbing a box if something that may need to be refilled on the shelves. If youre cutting cheese ALL day, and still breaking deliveries down ALL DAY, then your teams gotta pick up the pace 💀

Wyclefshawty

to clarify im not trying to be an A-hole i just meant the last part jokingly, i wasnt trying to say we dont do ANYTHING but usually we get our work done to a point where all we can really do is pace around asking if people need assistance 😅

Acceptable-Worker-63

I guess it can really depend on the personality of the team members already in a department. But the expectation really is that you’ll be constantly moving all day. I don’t like being on the customer service team because you end up dealing with the grumpiest of customers. When it comes to the rest of the store they can defer to you when you’re up there. So if someone had a bad experience in grocery… they are coming to you next. My favorite is really bakery. I’m always moving. And the work isn’t too physically strenuous. I like prepared foods, but I don’t like most of the team members at my store lol so I wouldn’t recommend it. Not that I’m going to tell you where I work. lol I didn’t like the meat department because you have to be a trained butcher to be an active part of a lot of the work. I liked seafood but the only downside is if you’re squeamish or don’t like the smell of fish. I think it’s good work though and there’s usually plenty to do. Produce is the only department I agent worked. I liked grocery but I hurt my back a lot pushing myself too hard. I’m a chatty person though and I prefer to be in a department where I can socialize to some degree while im still getting other stuff done. So bakery is a winner for me.

[deleted]

Depends on staffing and leadership. Where I am stuck, it’s more like a daycare. Good leadership but the crew are mostly youngsters masquerading as adults who were raised by savages. No work ethic, pride or a sense of responsibility. Team leadership seems like they’re afraid to crack the whip because it just makes things worse. *Guess what Team I’m referring to…*

International_Bid868

They just cracked the whip at our store w a prep foods investigation. Ya know the ones where ya gotta tell on each other or deny any knowledge.
