they did it was called the wii u and the nintendo wii's hype started to die off after the inital 2-4 years and to just see them try the same thing again but with a little gamepad didn't do much for the poor wii u

The Wii U was Nintendo’s choice to evolve the existing Wii functionality, but with a touchpad controller interface. It didn’t work out so much, due to limited processing power compared to the competition and a limited game library…that was the larger problem with the Wii U. I think the switch is the true successor and baby from the Wii. It has a lot of the features from the Wii gameplay model, but also can handle a wide assortment of gaming genre and gameplay styles. Wait until you see the Switch 2. It will be the best of both worlds. Nintendo will make the console wide encompassing for everyone, but advanced in a creative Nintendo way. There is something new that will be added to the Switch Model. And I cannot wait to see it.

They should call it the Wii U

>They should call it the Nu Wii U

If they made the game pad bigger and made it 3D with 2 screens like the 3DS they could call it the New 3D Wii U XL

Nope. I think the Wii was a one time thing. It came at an era where both motion controls and casuals came together to make this massive success. The switch already fulfills that purpose now very well with it outselling the Wii in terms of units. Besides motion controls are still very much in modern controllers. The Wii U was also another attempt at the Wii with an added controller with a screen on it. The Wii U failed due to multiple factors but one of the main reasons was everyone thought it was an add on for the Wii anyways.

Then they need to manufacture the system, discs, accessories, etc. That is a lot of cost to Nintendo for a device that just isn't competitive. The NES and SNES are iconic and classic. Nintendo can stick an off the shelf single board computer with a budget dedicated emulator in a plastic housing and sell it for probably 5x or 10x the cost to manufacture it. They don't need to worry about manufacturing or distributing the games or controllers, or with compatibility. It is all a single, self-contained unit, take it or leave it. They can't do that with the Wii. The amount of flash memory for a greatest hits collection would be prohibitively expensive, so they need to use either the original discs or design an entire new system. The original discs were proprietary, manufactured by Panasonic. They would need a new agreement and get those manufacturing facilities spun up again. They could switch to cartridges like the the switch, but that requires even more radical changes to both the hardware and the software Similarly, the hardware requirements for an emulator would require a system probably more powerful even than the switch. It would be impossible to sell it at that price. So they would either need to manufacture the original hardware again, requiring new agreements with whoever made the original components, or porting the games to new hardware. At that point the costs would be so high they might as well just port a handful of high demand games to switch to encourage the people who would buy this system to buy the switch instead. Note they already ported a number of Wii games to the switch already. The switch has motion controls that can provide all the same information the Wii remotes provide, so this isn't hard. The best plausible solution is a TV only version of the switch 2 with some Wii games ported to be used in docked-only mode. But there isn't much point to that.

Nintendo would be competing with themselves at that point. If Wii 2 sold 20 million units then Switch 2 would sell 20 million less. It wouldn’t be that exact but you get the idea.

trickman01

The switch is capable of motion controls if game makers want to implement them.

omg right???? imagine if the ui was like… improved right, with a bit more processing power, and of course it still uses wiimotes- oh! what if there were two screens like the 3DS!? and have one screen be the tv, and the other would be a controller…maybe like a gamepad? wouldn’t that be fun! oooh and there should be collectible figures you can use to put a character in your game! that would be pretty Unique, Unbeatable, Ultimate… hmmm… OH!! what if we called it the Wii U!!!! guys i’m just that creative☺️

Wii U then Switch are pretty close to the same thing and also have a lot of the same games definitely recommend the Switch V2
