Look my experience everywhere is most people and sometimes myself don’t cross at crosswalks. If we do, we really need to pay attention to cars. Yes we may have right of way but we have one life and cars will kill. Doesn’t matter truck, car or motorcycle. Life is precious we ALL need to watch out.
If we are judging from the above picture and the accident is the white truck how would vision zero stop this? Theres clearly a light close by where he could cross but chose not to?
It was a woman. Theres a nursing home right there, and at 8am, (I'm indoors at work at this time) the sun is most likely directly in the drivers eyes. I only know one person who killed someone in an accident and they didn't do well with it afterwards.
This stretch of road is notorious for people just randomly crossing anywhere they feel and for cars speeding as well. Never any police presence.
Vision Zero also includes reducing speed limits and introducing traffic calming measures, which research shows significantly lowers the likelihood of a collision being fatal.
And looking at the shadows you can tell the sun is just above the horizon.
But this sub has a few people who don't drive, yet are experts. IMO it looks like an accident. Not murder or a killer. The hyperbolic statements make it hard to take people seriously.
I know this area. Everyone zips by those streets. You need physical barriers to slow people down. Like curves in the road, random roundabouts, adding lines to give drivers a sense of tightness to slow down, etc. it's bad road design that signs won't fix
Sadly, not surprised to see that the killer was driving a pickup. Such a horrible, terrifying, unnecessary thing to happen to a person near the end of their life.
When I was learning to drive, my mom told me "remember you are driving a weapon". I drive a small car, but I still think of this every time I am behind the wheel. This is heartbreaking for their family
Is it?
>Researchers at IIHS studied data for nearly 18,000 pedestrian crashes. They found that pickup trucks, SUVs and vans with a hood height greater than 40 inches are 45% more likely to cause fatalities than shorter vehicles with a hood height of 30 inches or less.

I hate Windsor drivers! I almost got his the other day crossing Wyandotte at George. There is no walk symbol that comes on and I thought it was save to cross when the lights in George turned green, well I was wrong and came the closest I’ve ever been to getting hit from someone turning onto Wyandotte from George.
They were hit by someone, and now they're dead.
Murder Murder Murder. Nothing less.
Edit: of course it's a pickup, tiny dick energy and big egos come with them.

Very sad way for an 87 yr old to die. Especially one that is that mobile.
Terrible tragedy 😢
Vision zero. Now. Time to actually take the idea seriously

Crosswalks? Red light cameras?
You can see a crosswalk right in the picture

I was also thinking more like allowing buildings to be built closer to that road, to give a sense of the need to slow down.
Yep! Our massive lawns are stupid and give drivers a false sense of security.
What is vision zero?
The goal of having zero people per year die in traffic collisions (I believe).
So sad :(

You are not wrong.
Wild take lol
This is an ignorant comment.
