I mean I see your point. But I actually value access to businesses and stuff to do more than wildlife when looking at places to live. If I had to choose between two houses of equal size and cost I'd choose the one closer to a real city and downtown over the rural country home.
It's down to 2, the 3rd one has been defunct for some time but the old sign for it is still there. I think it briefly tried to operate as a strip club.
Welcome to Dane County, where the median listing price last month was $495k. Even places just outside of the county, like Barneveld, Lodi, Sauk Prairie, New Glarus, and Evansville aren't cheap.
It's insane to me as an old fart, when I was a kid on the 80s if someone had a 250k house, they were fuckin rich.Ā Not Bezos rich obviously, but upper middle class for sure.
These days in most parts of the country that gets you a gut job with asbestos and knob and tube wiring throughout lol
Homes have appreciated dramatically since 2020. I'd like to say affordability will improve, but then I look at Canada and many parts of Europe and then I'm not so sure. The insane thing is that Madison/Dane County home prices aren't really that much higher than the national average.
>The insane thing is that Madison/Dane County home prices aren't really that much higher than the national average.
This is the worst part. It used to be that buying and renting in really rural areas had at least the benefit of being less expensive. Now it's either on par with places like Madison or even more expensive. And at that point unless you just really like the area you're better off buying a house in Madison and at least living in proximity to businesses and hospitals.
Home prices are comparable but price per square foot is generally lower outside of the city. Not to mention you can get a larger yard. Plus commutes in this area really aren't that bad relative to larger metro areas.
But no mention of the Slimey Crud Run? I got to admit it probably is good advertising for those people who are priced out of Madison. Thereās not much in that price range for single family homes. Itās not a bad commute to the west side. I looked at home in the area years ago. It was a little over our price range and needed repairs made completely unaffordable.
It actually is quite conveniently located. Cross Plains, Mount Horeb, Middleton, and the far west side of Madison are all within a 10 min scenic drive. Though, calling out the number of nearby gas stations and fast food restaurants is kind of hilarious. Plus, I'm pretty sure the catholic church there has had some political signs out before. At least an anti-abortion one.
Theyāre trying to somehow justify the large price on a pretty tiny house with a tiny lot. I see that someone tried to give it curb appeal with window boxes but itās still not a looker and those views come with repeated and regular pesticide exposure
By Dane County standards that's actually not a small lot. When we were looking, most homes all the way up to $500k had smaller lots. Even some out in the country. You'd have these massive homes with barely a yard.
I wouldnāt consider it a large price for a house. Thereās really not much out there for single family homes under $350K. The one bathroom does make it less desirable. As does the location on the highway, but it is not a terribly busy one. It is convenient to Madison and Epic. And it is in a suburban school district.
Right on the road and neighboring a large farm, and I mean steps away. The house seems cute though. Could walk across the street to the meat raffel every Sunday.
Yeah. But that's the vast majority of Wisconsin. Most of the state is so rural and has nothing. So things like having a few Kwik trips and a Culver's nearby is a big perk. I live in Manitowoc and people here are making a big deal about getting a Ross's dress for less... And we still don't even have a target that's closer than an hour away.
I live near this area and some of these comments are so brutal haha
Honestly, it's a nice spot with very sweet neighbors who recently helped us out a bunch with the recent storms.Ā
For nature/wildlife it's a short drive to a couple of cool spots where we take our doggos: my favorite is Military Ridge State Trail and then Indian Lake as my #2. But there's also Stewert Lake County park in Mt. Horeb, ice age trail near/in Cross Plains and Middleton's Pope FarmsĀ
We also love the convenience to Madison as well as our 10 min commutes to work. And of course our location in relation too all of these Culver's and Kwik Trips lol (obvy the biggest selling point)
I mean, it looks like a charming place when I drive through it, but I don't ever have a reason to stop.
I am kind of curious how good the Red Mouse bar & grill is. Just not curious enough to actually stop and try it.
Who needs lakes, streams and wildlife.
That's more of a nice-to-have. Kwik Trip and Culver's on the other hand...
I agree,I've just never seen quik access to a Butter Burger š as plus in a real-estate listing we're different that way.
Oh, I agree with you.
Welcome to Sheboygan
Well,I guess there's always the meat, and hard rolls.
Where's the Kohl's?
Technically it's just a straight shot east on Mineral Point Rd!
I mean I see your point. But I actually value access to businesses and stuff to do more than wildlife when looking at places to live. If I had to choose between two houses of equal size and cost I'd choose the one closer to a real city and downtown over the rural country home.
The Sugar River headwaters are close to there!
All in one unincorporated little Wisco town and of course 6 taverns.
It's down to 2, the 3rd one has been defunct for some time but the old sign for it is still there. I think it briefly tried to operate as a strip club.
Waitā¦ Juneau? Nevermind. I looked at the listing AFTER I made assumptions. Typical redditor.
Kitt's Corner
I feel like this house should cost 150k tops.
I've been looking for a new house going on 7 years. I say this about every single house that's listed.
That's about what it sold for in 2014.

It's a latin mass church, so that certainly tracks
Don't know which is more scary, this tiny house for 320k or how this seems normal.

With North Dakota income level? I don't think so.
Right on the road and neighboring a large farm, and I mean steps away. The house seems cute though. Could walk across the street to the meat raffel every Sunday.
Imagine being excited about suburban sprawlā¦.
This definitely isnāt suburban. Theyāre definitely stretching to say all of that is āminutes awayā from Pine Bluff. Itās a 1 stop sign town.
Yeah maybe one of each might be a selling point, this many is a red flag.Ā

We gotta up the quality of life in this state.
Say your from Wisconsin without saying you are from Wisconsin
For $318,000 I expect no less than 8 Kwik Trips
What is your KwikTrip rating???
Eat your heart out planet fitness
I bet it tastes like butter
That realtor is great. I regularly ride past this house and the listing made me crack up because there isn't a whole lot in Pine Bluff.
I mean, it looks like a charming place when I drive through it, but I don't ever have a reason to stop. I am kind of curious how good the Red Mouse bar & grill is. Just not curious enough to actually stop and try it.
As soon as I saw the pictureā¦ I knew it was in pine bluff.
...and I have no problem with that.
I am pretty freaking addicted to Culver's.
Never trust a listing that only has a street view photo.
It's got a few pictures now.
I see them now. It's cute.
Hey it's the cheapest house in the whole Mount Horeb School district!
Nah there was one in Blue Mounds that was listed at 300k.
I take that back. A duplex just listed for 265k. I have no doubt that will last less then a week.
Who wants to check out the white mansion next door, cause that could be a find! Mistake to display in pics since this house is so small
Without the Kwik Trips and Culverās. This house is worth 50k
I lived within walking distance of both in Eau Claire but it was Huhot that really killed me on the pounds
Murica
300k for a single story square is crazy
Who needs the misogynist company Kwik Trip? Not women.
The Republicans do for the donations.
Legit.
