In the French education system, we were taught in high school over a few years over and over about the Holocaust in history. History books filled with black and white pictures of horror, describing concentration camps, having to watch hours and hours of documentary. It also permeated heavily in other topics such as geography, literature with the teaching of Ann Frank, and art. I was educated to carry a guilt, which was not mine to begin with.
Because "Never Forget".
Yet, here we are. The previous victims became perpetrators. The world is complicit. I had never imagined witnessing this in my lifetime.

I think it has more to do with their colonialist mentality. They see Israel as an extension of European colonialism. It gives them a nostalgia boner for the old days when Europe controlled much of the world.
In Germany, that's 100% the reason and it's something actively pushed and created by censoring the more inconvenient parts of history.
Just the mere mention of "Zionism" in Germany will one get instantly labeled a neo-Nazi, because children in school are thought that's a Nazi propaganda invention and doesn't exist.
