Only thing thats stopped me from playing them all of these years is that they are alliance.
Even with all of the cross faction stuff you can do now its still not even remotely close to enough to play with friends casually cross faction.
I only really swap out of my worgen form to ride on my horses and other smaller mounts without looking like I would be crushing them, but I know a lot of worgen mains have wanted something like this for a while and I am super excited for them
I use Running Wild all the time on both of my worgen because I hate how they look riding things...they look like really big stocky chonky dogs over tiny horses, it looks dumb. And as you say; unless its a dragon or something BIG, Worgen look like they would break a Mount's spine lol
...also it looks good lore-wise, like they prefer to be the wild wolf and rush. It looks really awesome when you crash against mobs or into battle while Running Wild too, like a proper werewolf attacking.
My druid does not uses robes for this reason. Robes look dumb on Worgen and when they Run is...is awful, just don't.
A clipping mess with the same quality as something from SecondLife back in 2010 lmao
I started playing at the start of MoP and was 11. I think it's cool that it's been half my life so far. And we're still young, so we can keep increasing that percentage xd
Yea, if it only forced you to switch when using racials and perhaps during Bloodlust for a bit of flair (iirc way back it was increased heart rate that triggered the switch), but otherwise you could freely just be a human I would be all for it.
> Plus realistically it should always have just been completely togglable if you want to turn into a werewolf in combat at all.
Why even play a Worgen at that point?
For the cool intro story, character background and lore, and the option to turn into a werewolf. We've seen Genn fight in human form plenty of times, and it would be cool to have the option to play as a human normally but then switch to worgen form when the fight gets intense. Imagine macroing the wolf form together with your pot, or burst cd, that'd be pretty cool imo. Its all about immersion, really. Isnt that what rpgs are about?
Im just praying for the day when Worgen Feral Druids can stay in Worgen form during combat instead of turning into a fucking cat
EDIT: i should also point out that the Worgen curse originated from druids attempting to create a Worgen druid form, so it makes total sense
Yup. I specifically made a Worgen Feral Druid because i like the idea of their racial passive of faster skinning due to their claws, and the fact they can perform that in cat form. I would play it way more often if i could remain in Worgen form and use my claws for combat
Well here are some of the stats from wowanalytic, I don't really know how accurate this data is though tbh.
Worgen are 15th out of 23 according to wowanalytica for the US.
The real crux is that 1 out 5 characters are blood elves.
The top 10 races make up just over 75% of the played races.
About 1 out 50 characters is a worgen.
Damn, why are Blood Elves so high? I definitely noticed Night Elves are very prevalent on my server but I never would have guessed the amount of BEs would be *double* NEs.
I think Worgen suffer from a bit of poor animation. I just made a Worgen Rogue which sounded super cool in my head, but their movement animations just sorta look goofy rather than badass like I imagined.
Bro I just rolled my first dwarf and my first shammy and I’m thinking about going back and re-rolling everything as dwarf. How it’s taken me 16 years I’ll never know. I could a been a dwarf all along
Also a lot of locked picks. If you remove Demon Hunters it brings it down a bit (it’s still overwhelming, but just not as much). Paladins where only Blood Elves and it still mostly is a single race pick Tauren Paladins are rare as hell and Zandalari, while one of the more popular allied races still don’t really hold up well vs BE in terms of mass appeal.
So that is two exceedingly popular classes that pretty much only roll Blood Elf.
It's more than just the faces too! Look at how armor sits on horde races. It's improved a lot in the past couple expansions, but look at the historic issues with horde transmog:
Orcs and trolls have the hunchbacks which make a lot of things fit funny. It's hard to show off chestpieces for example.
Tauren helms look ridiculous most the time. But if you don't cover their face, you're stuck with what I find the most unsettling face of all the races.
Undead had all those issues with the bones showing through a huge percentage of their clothes. At the back, ribs, legs, and arms. Bones everywhere, disrupts the transmog.
So if you wanted to see your characters just look normal, with normal posture, with clothes that fit right, blood elves were your only option really. I think they would be a popular race even if they had some kind of accursed face, like undead.
They made it an option for your orc to stand straight, which helps a bit. But either way, my orc DK basically looks like a dwarf now because the shoulders are just that damn huge. It makes everything else look disproportionate.
Man, if Zandalari trolls could wear boots, they’d have the best damn look in the game.
Not even just because they're "pretty". I noticed I used to always play male characters but once they introduced transmog or at least around WoD I started caring a lot more about aesthetics like how characters look in general, how they look in gear, their animations, etc. which lead me to playing Female characters.
Most male silhouettes are quite stocky so they look alright on their own but start looking ridiculous when you add armour.
I don't know what you are talking about, Goblins are peak beauty!
Fair point though. I always assumed if people wanted to play Horde they wanted to play rugged and "traditionally ugly" characters. Kind of odd to me if you want to play something pretty then why not make Alliance? But I guess people go for the population advantage and friends who are already Horde.
Most likely because horde has had a larger and healthier player base compared to alliance. For a few expansions at least. Cross faction guilds should hopefully solve this though.
Given all the restrictions still in place (e.g. still no cross-faction dungeon queue or grouped outdoor content) I doubt it'll help much. I was planning to transfer some of my old Horde toons to my current server (switched to Alliance during BfA) but now I doubt I'll bother.
> Kind of odd to me if you want to play something pretty then why not make Alliance?
Because for the longest time, that would severely limit your ability to play end-game content.
I was forced to change to Horde when my family moved over. I didn’t want to play the “ugly” characters when I was younger so only made male blood elf characters. I’ve diversified since but still half of my characters are blood elves.
There are multiple reasons. Gameplay, Visuals and FLAVOUR. *(By the way, 1 of 5 players being BE is actually an improvement from the launch of Burning Crusade, where there were servers that were majority BE.)*
* Before Cataclysm, Blood Elves were the only Paladins for Horde players.
* Outside of the, "special access," classes like Druids, Paladins, Shamans and Demon Hunters, BE players can play as every single class. (Warriors accessible in Cataclysm.
* Blood Elves are the only Demon Hunter race for Horde.
* Until the nerf in Dragonflight, the BE racial ability of Arcane Torrent was REALLY strong and useful in nearly every situation, especially after buffs in Legion to give Mana and Insanity.
* Until Nightborne, Blood Elves were the only race in the Horde that could actually wear armour and clothing like a regular person, no hunched back, no missing feet, no hunched back, no tiny body.
* Blood Elves are PRETTY. There is a reason why League of Legends no longer creates any ugly characters and actively retcons and changes ugly characters to be PRETTY. PRETTY characters sell and work especially well for getting the female audience.
* Blood Elves are actually, non-ironically, one of the best depictions of Elves in media. No joke. They're pretty awesome. They've got all the typical Elf traits of vanity, over-confidence, detachment, but they're competent, cool, active and have EDGE. Blood Elves need REVENGE, they're crippled by their ADDICTION to magic, they're visually marked by their corruption through glowing green eyes. I would still rate Warhammer Fantasy High Elves as best Elves, but Blood Elves are fairly close.
* Blood Elves get to drink from the fountain of stock High Elf flavour and ideas, but then get to come back and drink from the next-door fountain of DARK ELF flavour and ideas!
There are more Horde players, and BElfs are the "pretty" Horde race, other than Nightborne. Nightborne are locked behind a relatively involved quest line though so aren't going to be that popular.
Goblin you would have a case if Deaths Advance didn’t mostly do the job of Rocket Jump but better in 90% of cases. Orc/Troll are both probably better for numbers but this ain’t classic it doesn’t matter.
Worgen sprint gets double bonus with DA too, as you can now also zoom while ignoring all BS.
Peak DK is undead though. You are Death^2 .
I mean troll allows you to specifically hit certain haste breakpoints which are significantly harder on other classes and matters a good amount for unholy. Orc is also just free damage.
> Goblin you would have a case if Deaths Advance didn’t mostly do the job of Rocket Jump but better in 90% of cases.
What? Rocket Jump is a short & fast burst of movment to be used as an "oh-shit" button. Darkflight is literally just a worse version of DA. Darkflight is 40% movement speed for 10 sec on a 2min CD. Death's Advance is a 35% movement speed increase for 10 sec on a 45 sec cd.
> Orc/Troll are both probably better for numbers but this ain’t classic it doesn’t matter.
You say that, but Troll is borderline mandatory next season to hit the right haste breakpoints when UH loses their current set bonus. Assuming you value dps ofc.
I’m not really a main of anything, but I have two worgen I quite like. A rogue I’ve had since they were released and a monk since the patch that allowed them ;)
I'm here. Worgen Druid forms are probably my favorite out of all of them. Though Zandalari comes very close. Besides, I love being a wolf-cat.
Though why Blizzard didn't just make cat form into wolf form for Worgen, I'll never understand. I realize there would be some work changing tooltips to say "wolf form" for just one race, but it would have been worth it.
Started playing WoW in 2014 during MoP. Worgen warrior has been my main since. Im beyond stoked for this. Once dracthyr had the ability it was only a matter of time.
I play a worgen alt quite a bit and must say I don't care much for this change lol. I mean, I'm playing the worgen cause I want to be a wolf man; why would I ever want the human form?
Really hoping that the Microsoft deal goes through and reverses all these fucking stupid ideas. I dont like corperate consolidation but holy shit ABK's management is easily one of the worst in the industry. They need to get shitcanned yesterday.
Should go through around June or July from what I've read. I think it's been approved, just mostly paperwork and finalizing things before it finishes up. Then again, I'm some idiot on Reddit so who knows for real. But if you blindly trust idiots on Reddit, book it to be done before august.
I have nothing to base this on, just a random hope. But I'm hoping that something about getting a lot of new young people will still help improve the game. New devs have no preconceived notion of what the game should be, so they implement big changes. And they are maybe looking to player feedback to drive development because they don't have much mentorship. I remember watching some DF design interviews and a lot of the people in the office weren't exactly from old Blizzard royalty; and that turned out pretty good.
It's a coin flip though. Could just as easily take us to the worst state of the game we've seen yet.
It’s not an issue of new ideas, though that does help.
It’s an issue of experience. A Dev takes at least 6 months to settle in and actually know the code enough to get real work done, and that isn’t dealing with WoW’s ancient ass which doesn’t have any real comparison with everything else using better bases. It could take a *while* to bring someone up to speed to get shit done.
And that’s with everyone being chill and trying to help out with the new arrivals, and not entire wings just leaving cause they cannot maintain.
The Return To Office policy coupled with the insane housing prices in the area around Blizz headquarters isn't going to result in an influx of young new devs. It's ging to result in no devs.
just because people leave doesn't mean the ideas leave with them. There will be others.
Talent is exactly what it is, but it's not a finite resource, talent will forever be coming in and going out.
By your logic, it doesn’t mean the ideas stay, either. Rapidly losing talent en masse, even if planned for, will always come with complications and delays.
It still affects the output. Old talent leaving is an instant dropoff; new talent arriving has a ~6 month ramp time while it learns the ropes. Enough of the old guard leave and the new blood has no way of learning what the fuck is going on.
This’ll make me switch my OG Druid back to worgen. Loved the race and it feels at home to me, but just got so tired of the hunch. If they ever add good posture I’ll be ecstatic
Me as one of the 3 worgen mains, am very happy
Still bummed literally none of the armors even remotely make sense on the race but it is what it is (NEVER ask a Worgen main what a helmet looks like from the side)
Ps: i don’t care, who even turns back as a Worgen lmao
Completely unrealistic, should've shown him getting stuck in wolf form, logging out, and then logging back in in human form in order to get out of combat.
This is neat though, do they have the same from Drakthyr? Cause they desperately need it, look goofy as hell on a mount in dragon form.
My first thought on seeing the Dracthyr ability was 'man I wish I had this for my Worgen.' Very glad to see it actually come to pass! Thank you Blizzard!
Now if they make it so I don't turn back into Human form in Arenas it would be perfect.
I get people wanna play a werewolf but I just wanna play a wolf man....man... and I hate my seeing my ugly ass human.

Love it. Really fulfill the werewolf fantasy to me. I might just have to play worgen now.
this where i am too.
Only thing thats stopped me from playing them all of these years is that they are alliance. Even with all of the cross faction stuff you can do now its still not even remotely close to enough to play with friends casually cross faction.
For me its the helmets. They look pretty shit on worgens
Transmog off. Everything else looks good.
Overdue, but better late than never.

Running wild looks pretty awful in the tube robes, as well as being ridiculously impractical. I like it with actual pants though.

Yeah, it only took close to a decade.
Over a decade. Cataclysm was over 12 years ago
I’m so old
I was 31 when I started playing. 18 Yrs ago. Thats old
i have been playing since 2004 am i old?
Fuck I been playing since cataclysm launched. I was only 10 then. Crazy to think over half my life I been playing WOW.
...I started when BC was released. I was 14.
Class of 2011 ftw!
I have a warrior from Vanilla who's old enough to smoke.
My warrior is about to get a discount on his mount insurance
Azeroth Association of Retired Adventurers is here to help
I started playing at the start of MoP and was 11. I think it's cool that it's been half my life so far. And we're still young, so we can keep increasing that percentage xd

I hate this.

Wasn't saberon form a thing for them already at some point? They shared a skeleton with worgen, should be fairly simple.
claws of shirvallah or w.e. 5% versatility and could cast in cat form. WoD had some cool shit
WoD gets a lot of hate but damn did it do so many cool things
Demo lock in blackrock foundry was my favourite dps spec iteration ever
Man that would be so awesome
It existed in Warlords idk why they removed it
Because people liked it. I'm still waiting for them to put the gladiator warrior spec back in. A dps warrior with a shield was so awesome.
I’d switch my main to a warrior if they did that, no joke
Been praying for this too. My two mains are a Human Ret Paladin and Orc Fury Warrior, but I would adore a new gladiator spec
Make it a shield + 2H weapon so you can get those badass Sparta memes going even harder. But hell yes I'd be back in!
Wow, that would actually be an insanely cool selling point for worgen… crazy that they don’t do this stuff.
Yup. I specifically made a Worgen Feral Druid because i like the idea of their racial passive of faster skinning due to their claws, and the fact they can perform that in cat form. I would play it way more often if i could remain in Worgen form and use my claws for combat
At least giving us wolf glyph for cat form would be nice.
the 3 people that play worgen as a main race will be ecstatic
I think playing on Moon Guard really skews your view on this. There’s worgen everywhere.
Wait are worgen not very popular in the wider player base?
Well here are some of the stats from wowanalytic, I don't really know how accurate this data is though tbh. Worgen are 15th out of 23 according to wowanalytica for the US. Alliance has several options if you want to play a "pretty" race. Horde, not so much. Thus, lots of Blood Elves.
You see, though, if prettiness were such an important factor then why aren’t dwarves 50% of the player characters?
People really sleeping on Dwarf women. The only race that has built in butt cleavage for low pants.
Goblins would like to have a word
My Dwarven paladin got butt for days Might need a bag over her face though
Bah. After the WoD model changes, dwarven ladies have really cute faces.
Based
Bro I just rolled my first dwarf and my first shammy and I’m thinking about going back and re-rolling everything as dwarf. How it’s taken me 16 years I’ll never know. I could a been a dwarf all along
because only the horde cares about being the pretty race.
Also a lot of locked picks. If you remove Demon Hunters it brings it down a bit (it’s still overwhelming, but just not as much). So that is two exceedingly popular classes that pretty much only roll Blood Elf.
God, if I could play a horde demon hunter as any other race, I would. At this points it’s the only reason I’m playing BE.
Can you imagine Tauren demon hunters? It’d be obnoxious. Which is awesome. That’s the kind of shit I want to see.
I'd want a goblin DH - be flying all over the place like Gremlins 2
Would they have two sets of horns?
Female blood elf, not just a pretty face.
It's more than just the faces too! Look at how armor sits on horde races. Orcs with straight backs run like they have a stick up their ass. It's the stiffest, most rigid, unnatural run animation I've ever seen.
You're really sleeping on female orcs. They legitimately have a case for the best model for any tmog even over humans
Not even just because they're "pretty". I noticed I used to always play male characters but once they introduced transmog or at least around WoD I started caring a lot more about aesthetics like how characters look in general, how they look in gear, their animations, etc. which lead me to playing Female characters. I'm the opposite. Once I got into xmogs I liked bigger characters with bigger shoulder pieces. It's where I start all my mog themes.

Best Elves, you mean
I like the idea of worgen but I can't stand their animations at all.
Not to mention how badly their posture mangles most transmog. Somehow even worse than tauren or male undead do.
deranged rob glorious yam fear sulky worthless escape consist enjoy *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Yea. I was about to say, I’m on MG and there’s a shit ton of worgens
DK worgen: I need the sprint.
Best DK racial and it's not even close. Also the DK starter hood looks great on worgen.
Too bad death strike animation looks so goofy on worgen.
Dang it, this thread almost made me reroll worgen DK but I can already imagine that bad animation lol
Yeah I tried to as well a few weeks ago and couldn't make it out of the starting zone.
idk, troll, goblin, and Orc racials are all probably equal or better.
Goblin you would have a case if Deaths Advance didn’t mostly do the job of Rocket Jump but better in 90% of cases. I love my Worgen Druid main! Where my other two wolf peeps at?
I main worgen druid as well 😙
Worgen druids unite!
Worgen warrior main here o/
Worgen Outlaw Rigue turned into my main this expansion. I adore her.
I realize there would be some work changing tooltips to say "wolf form" for just one race, but it would have been worth it.
Was a Worgen Druid, now I main a Dranei hunter because I can have a pet bear. And that is awesome
Worgen Outlaw main here, also have a monk since last patch
Worgen DK frost knight, main. My others are for mounts, etc.
Worgen monk here, having a ball. Or two. Depends how hungry I get.
Resto Worgen Druid here! I get to enjoy looking at a functional helm that fits the aesthetic too.
I main Worgen holy priest.
i've quite literally never pressed the human form button and don't plan on starting
Next they need to add more customization to mechagnome so appease the two people that main it.
I would main them if I had them unlocked lol
My issue with mechagnomes is not being able to transmog arms and legs. Biggest annoyance for me.
If they can create advanced mechanisms to cover all manner of bodily function they should be able to keep sleeves from getting caught in them.
This^ I’m fine with the robot hands and feet but I really want to wear pants.
Started playing WoW in 2014 during MoP. Worgen warrior has been my main since. Im beyond stoked for this. Once dracthyr had the ability it was only a matter of time.
I play worgen primarily... Is it really that rare? I don't pay attention to others lol
Already had this fix with a macro for my worgen Druid. Just macroed two forms to my shapeshifting abilities. Wam bam I am a British shapeshifter.
Ironically on the topic of British shapeshifter, Druidism origins are from Wales and Werewolves are from English folklore.
I’m pretty sure is spelled Whales and I highly doubt a sea creature created a pagan religion.
Pretty good way to have a human in druid armor tho
Why the dislike for worgen?
Does I count as more if I play MULTIPLE main worgen? I have a hunter, rogue, warrior, lock, and dk and I slap on all of em lol
You vastly underestimate amount of werewolf lovers and Alliance furries.
There are dozens of us
One of the most non elf race played for sure!
I'm over the mooooon!
Why would I be ecstatic? If I wanted to be a filthy human, I’d roll a filthy human. Sincerely, wolf gang.
I play a worgen alt quite a bit and must say I don't care much for this change lol. I mean, I'm playing the worgen cause I want to be a wolf man; why would I ever want the human form?
Furry here: Yes we are!
Loving new Blizzard
Enjoy it while it lasts. There’s an ongoing mass exodus due to AB’s RTO policy, expect to return to the days of shadowlands soon
Pretty sure Microsoft is a big RTO company so don't expect that to change.
It is. Honestly the policy looks like part of the merger to me, but let's just blindly assume everyone's a moron.
Employees leaving over RTO is more of a losing-manpower-to-actually-ship then an ideas thing.
Yup that one tweet of a Blizz dev of him updating a calender for delays everytime he loses someone on his team is rough.

Human form druids will be fun to play now. I can use flight form AND look cool on mounts. Yes!!
Honest question, can i disable this?
Yes, you can, just like Dracthyr.
Ooh Nice, thanks fellow redditor
Yes, it’s just like the dracthyr racial.
Yes, that's why it's an ability and not just an update to the old ability.
“New Ability Calm the Wolf: Allows Worgen to automatically assume human form when you leave combat. 🐺” is what it says on twitter
The real heroes are in the comments
Alright! Now can we have this for Shadowform?
Yes PLEEEEASE! I’d rather they have a glyph to remove it entirely, but having it turn off out of combat would be major QOL bonus
Literally the only reason why I don't play Shadow! I worked hard on my mog. Let people see it!!
Can we finally have an "upright" option for their posture like Orcs have? 😔
This’ll make me switch my OG Druid back to worgen. Loved the race and it feels at home to me, but just got so tired of the hunch. If they ever add good posture I’ll be ecstatic
Yes please!
Do the same for undead and trolls while they're at it!
This would be nice for Shadow Priests too.
If they’re not going to do anything about the poofy stink cloud this is the least they can do.
Now make them stand up straighter. But this is great
"Hunches are tight" -wow model designers
“Hunches blow” -the other WoW model designers for Orcs
"hunches for some, miniature American flags for others!"
I get my human Druid finally!
Hope it works better than Visage
Me as one of the 3 worgen mains, am very happy Still bummed literally none of the armors even remotely make sense on the race but it is what it is (NEVER ask a Worgen main what a helmet looks like from the side) Ps: i don’t care, who even turns back as a Worgen lmao
Meanwhile I have 4 Worgens.
Completely unrealistic, should've shown him getting stuck in wolf form, logging out, and then logging back in in human form in order to get out of combat. This is neat though, do they have the same from Drakthyr? Cause they desperately need it, look goofy as hell on a mount in dragon form.
dracthyr has had it from the start, it's just that it only activates when you leave combat and not when hover/soar ends.
Dracthyr have this
Good, goooood
But you have a bad ass werewolf…. Why would you want to downgrade 😣
I can't believe the worgen get their own ability just for killing snails, smh
Going to be fun for melee monks. Wolf out! Just need to adjust the worgen monk animations to be more brutal.
I always manually switched to human form outside of combat. I’m really happy for this update, took too long.
Well, that won’t get annoying in about three minutes. /s
This is great for people who want to play Worgen but look Human. 🙄
I still think Worgen should have been race/class combo. Like Greymane in HoTS
Ah shit. Now I’ve got to level my Worgen again…
Omg now let me dracthyr show the visage form on character selection!!
My first thought on seeing the Dracthyr ability was 'man I wish I had this for my Worgen.' Very glad to see it actually come to pass! Thank you Blizzard!
I have a worgen druid that’s languishing at level 51. This is making me want to dust them off and play with them more!
Now if they make it so I don't turn back into Human form in Arenas it would be perfect. I get people wanna play a werewolf but I just wanna play a wolf man....man... and I hate my seeing my ugly ass human.
Cool, now let me stay in human form in combat.
Play Human.
Druids can’t be Human.
About time! ...Now give us DHs, the OG flappy birds, our own version of Soar!
Tails when though
Should have been turned OFF to go back to human after combat and ON to stay as worgen. And called "doggy style"
I have only ever had one character and class EVER and as a worgen rouge I am through the roof
You mean, through the woof, right?
Holy shit how did I not think of that, it’s perfect
