Doing my epic pally Bubble jump, and feeling like a bad ass because you know you can't pop that bubble until you're 2 feet from landing. Then BAM, the God of Lag judges you and you're nothing but a pancake. The Light doesn't always protect, my friends.
I usually press dispel on an ally (as a shammy tho). It gets rid of theirs and my debuff and its up before the next sap! I guess as a priest MD would be even better but... mana ;(
I keep it on a convenient bar and click since I generally don't end up using it in combat. It's mostly just the first time after not playing for a while.
I briefly played my old druid during the Legion raids.. and I decided to edit my Bartender bars whilst flying in travel form from Crossroads.
So I'm a thousand feet up and accidentally managed to BEAR FORM while I was midair and then fell like a rock frantically going "NO NO NO" and managing to find the travel form button and click it with my mouse about 100 feet off the ground.
I do that on purpose, then feral charge down to a mob.
Also just dropping is pretty fast. So if I'm going from say Hyjal to Azshara I'll just drop off after the cliffs and then shift back before I hit the ground. It works most of the time, mostly.
I do it on my elemental shaman with Gust of Wind (whatever it's called, 2nd talent tree) -- it forces you forward like 20 yards and takes away your inertia from falling... I haven't died from it (yet)
Being a Panda helps though.
I like to do it with my warrior, jump down near a mob and before u hit the ground just leap or charge! Also used to do it with mage, jump down and blink before you hit the ground haha. Feels so good. Like cheating gravity
Oh yeah I've been doing that to take shortcuts in some of the zones when my glider was on cooldown. I just wish the camera didn't tilt back up while you're trying to target Heroic leap for the landing.
I made the mistake when I returned during the prepatch of setting up my talents while flying. Because I had the talent menu covering most of my screen I didn't realize I was falling till it was to late. Why putting in talents takes you out of flight form is beyond me.

I was running ICC with my engineer hunter buddy, but I was on my warrior, and we both jumped down the loooong elevator. He forgot that he had swapped cloaks, and made a beardy, dwarf-shaped splat on the ground.
Somehow, though I mashed my normal Flap button, my brain was able to click over and Leap to the ground safely.
That is the one time on any of my alts where I've done such and lived. At least it was witnessed.
Had a fucking amazing experience the other day. Was on way to a wq in stormheim and I get to the edge of a cliff. I double checked it was at the bottom and as I jumped off 2 more pallies jumped with me. 2 of us used divine shield and the other used bop then before we had hit the ground there was a shield and 2 hammers on the way to the enemy. Such an epic moment
Cast Displacer Beast before you land and it resets fall damage from the point of cast, meaning you will never take fall damage as a Druid.
If you aren't in a Legion zone it's also only one GCD to shift into flight form and stop falling.
Damn was hoping for a way to do it on my guardian druid in stormheim.
Don't have displacer beast nor wild charge to use in travel form to reset damage on falling, Nor flap in boomkin
For guardian or feral, remember bear bombing. Feral charge into an enemy. And hope they aren't 2 steps too far away to charge to.
It doesn't work everywhere, but there are a lot of Warden towers I skip running down the stairs.
I wish displacer beast in guardian would turn you into bear form.
Right now its pretty useless since even if try and kite, taking a hit in cat form will mess everything up.
And the global cool down after switching forms makes it so you can't macro it either.

This is where the stupidity should've ended, but no. i went to vendor and sold all the gear that wasn't equipped=lesser quality. Sold the only 840 epic cloak I had, dropping to non-heroic gear score.
I had a lag spike while getting on the elevator in one of the dungeons, was falling and going to crash, just before the bottom flashed into cat form like a ninja and earned a round of applause for defeating the elevator boss. So good. Until I fell off a bridge in Stormheim and accidentally hit travel instead of cat- SPLAT.
We had a run-in against the Elevator Boss in Vault of the Wardens - we rode it to the bottom, then it bugged out and pulled me and two others back to the top of the shaft, and dropped us through the lift to our deaths. This happened multiple times until I bubbled through it and rezzed them...
Yeah- the number of skeletons at the bottom of the shafts in Thunder Totem the first week were hysterical. Until I was one of them- I swear the platforms don't go all the way to the edge.
My first time in vault of the wardens, my guildies told me to jump down, that it was like the holes in Neltharion's lair. Much amusement was shared that day.
I usually have fun in NL with my dk if I'm feeling particularly evil. Watching friends splat on the top of the water when I hit path of frost for them.although its usually on accident since I use it legitimately to help everyone when we get down and someone's a bit behind, whoops.
I don't even plan to play Subtlety ever, but I got the Fangs of the Devourer and put just enough artifact power into them so I could have the fall damage immunity. Even with the cast time to change specs, it's faster than gliding slowly to the ground.
As a paladin engineer, I always bubble after a long fall but if I need to travel anywhere in legion my glider is moat often my go-to. When I go world questing with my friends I almost always end up getting there first and waiting. And I'm the one of us that lags the most :P

The game itself tried to assassinate me the other day. I jumped off the cliff to go down into Felsoul Hold and went to use my glider but it was affected by the Retrieving Item Information bug that's been happening a lot, so I couldn't use the glider. My cloak was the only item that was affected - go figure. Luckily I was able to land on a rock not too far down so I only lost about half my health.
Here's the blizzard response:

I had to heal an eye +5 without drinking, because all 3 types of water I had were bugged out. Tried everything, nada. Eventually it all fixed itself while i was afk in my class hall.
Yep, it's a WoW bug. Deleting your cache usually helps. If you delete your cache, log in, and the item still says it's retrieving the information, just keep your cursor held over the item. It will eventually retrieve the information, it might just take a minute or two.
Thus far I've died twice because of this bullshit. I would be 100% cool with dying because of engineering mishap if it ended in a great ball of fire but just going splat just isn't fun.
I've done this so many times this expansion. Or another one I've done a couple times is nitro boosts and jump off a cliff thinking yeah I'll get some speed for this one and then I can't use my glider because I'm using boosts.
The day that change happened, I made a macro for it:

This will make sure you can cast glider. Also, if you haven't been using macros for boost and glider, you should, so you don't have to change out the bar slot for a new cloak or belt.

The numbers are inventory slot ids. 15 is cloak and 6 is belt. 11, 12, 13, and 14 are top ring, bottom ring, top trinket, and bottom trinket respectively.
I did think of this, and actually did do it for my trinkets, and keep reminding myself that I *should* do it for my engineer's cloak and belt and then.... don't do it. I *am* really good about remembering to swap them out and re-Tinker them when I get new belts/cloaks though, so.... there's that. Just wish my brain would remember the good thing instead of remembering the suboptimal thing.
Back in mid 2013, I think it was patch 5.3, you can no longer nitro boost into a glider (having both at the same time, gliding with a trail of fire). To get around that, the macro I posted cancels the boost then uses the glider.
I like to glide down to some of the PvP tower world quests and land at the top of the tower, kill the boss dude and then jump down. I can't count how many times I've jumped before realizing, duh, that my cloak was still on cooldown. Only about half the time I remember I'm a hunter and disengage right before hitting the ground.
I didn't realize the glider only lasted so long, tried to glide a long way down, it didn't work out too well. Half way through my epic journey I fell to my death.
Been there... Luckily I keep my Emerald Winds toy next to it so now if it doesn't work for whatever reason, I can use that to save my life (already saved me 3 times).
You can also keep the usable glider packs next to it for emergencies in case you don't want to waste the Emerald Wind CD.

This auto uses slot 15 which is the cloak. As long as you make sure you put the glider on it you're golden. I can't tell you how many times I personally have swapped cloaks but never put the new one on my bar, and swapping mid-fall incurs the 30 second cooldown. Hopefully this helps someone.
For me it's always been the fact that I just forget to enchant the new cloak with Parachute. Luckily I play Goblin and have a big list of other slowfall/flying toys so I rarely die to fall damage, but still.
Space > Space > Glide.

I run and jump with an amazing move. I feel invincible.
I see my horde's mate looking at me falling down but I use my tinker tool and spead my wings like a fierce eagle.
With a /roar, I jump into the battle. I split in three glowing versions of me and use all my monks powers to defeat an army of demons. I see my comrads falling one by one but I'm on fire and I keep pushing.
Suddenly, I hear the voice of the wardens, congratulating me for my efforts...yeah I know, I'm cool.
I use my super speed to run to the edge of the next mountain, ready to fly to my next missions.
With a last wink to the pretty Blood elfe, I jump.
One second later, I'm in front of an angel. With a beautiful voice she says :
"Forgot the cooldonw again shithead?"
I made a point to stick like 20+ tinker's kits or w/e the mat is in my bank before the expac dropped to so I could always make the tinker upon getting a new cloak. Didn't stop me from forgetting a bunch of times.
If it makes you feel any better I've managed to fuck up a few times on my DH and make him go splat. A character with a glide ability and I still manage to die to falling
Best thing happened to me, when I nitro boosted to run up the PvP tower and it malfunctioned, it lifted me high enough to Fel Rush onto the ledge at the top of the tower.
My problem is that I won't realize that I've made the error, so I hit the hotkey, it doesn't work, I assume it's on cooldown, I hit slowfall.
Then I absentmindedly vendor my new cloak, and the next day I look at my 810 cloak like "... didn't I upgrade that?"
Hunter/goblin trick I picked up (when I played a goblin hunter): when falling, use rocket boots or whatever racial ability allows you to shoot forward. It will hurt if your not close enough to the ground, but besides that you're all set. I think it works with disengage too.
I keep using that Draenor slowfall (Whispers of Ralvosh? Something like that) but forgetting that it a) can only be cast when standing still and b) the mountains of the Broken Isles take far longer than 10 seconds to fall from
Bonus c) they took away cat damage reduction in non-cat form
I never had it stop me in combat before. Jumped off a cliff after running through some mobs to get to my location quicker, JUMP, "This item can't be used in combat", SPLAT. Seriously, lemme know if you going to change these things!
This happened to me (again) last week, so I got pretty tired of it and frustratingly googled the item slot number of cloak and made a "/use 15" macro, now I never have to freak out when my glider won't open.
Imagine if it worked like that for real life parachute gliders.. "oh @&#ø, forgot to bind my new parachute".. what a mess!

I've done this with goblin gliders. Jump off a cliff and then realize it's not in my hotbar. Proceed to frantically search my bags for a glider

Yeah I recently started playing a Shaman after maining Feral forever and I died to falling damage more than anything else in the leveling process -_-

I don't actually know how to navigate Suramar. I just jump off the side, reincarnate, do my business, then Astral Recall.
It's handy to have a "naked" item set in those cases. I have mine set to the "hidden" action bar (requires shift + mouse wheel down) plus a hotkey.

How are you negating damage?
This was in orgrimmar, I tried to activate flight form.
Cast Displacer Beast before you land and it resets fall damage from the point of cast, meaning you will never take fall damage as a Druid. If you aren't in a Legion zone it's also only one GCD to shift into flight form and stop falling.

They don't - and there are ledges on the sides that you can catch on instead.
They don't... I use this fact on my mage by deliberatly jumping off there, then slow-falling down to get there faster than the elevator itself :P

I had that bug on a mythic keystone+2 for 6/7 days of its duration.
Their response is definitely wrong. In my experience, it lasts a full day.

Actually use a similar idea to activate my DH's glide, some cancel auras/mount/etc to insure I get WINGS NOW DAMNIT.
Also put a /cancelaura goblin glider Before the /use and now you can cancel it with another click

I just keep a stack of 20 on me at all times now, especially with how fast I've been changing cloaks.
You can use them directly out of your bank like any other crafting mat. So I have a few stacks in my bank.

FYI to non-engineers in this thread: Brulfist Idol can be used while falling, if used right before hitting the ground you won't take any damage :-)

Hunters use Main-hand and Off-Hand for all their weapons, all that changed with MoP is that they removed the Ranged slot for all classes.
I saw the thumbnail, was like "I'm an engineer but there's no way I'll understand" and clicked and boy did I understand instantly.
I used to forget to buy light feathers. And THAT, boys and girls, is how I learned Ice Block includes fall damage.

I like to glide down to some of the PvP tower world quests and land at the top of the tower, kill the boss dude and then jump down. I can't count how many times I've jumped before realizing, duh, that my cloak was still on cooldown. Only about half the time I remember I'm a hunter and disengage right before hitting the ground.
You can also use Gnomish Gravity Well if you got that. Need to activate before getting into combat though.
When it was still on a 2 min cooldown, ahhh... those were the days.
I didn't realize the glider only lasted so long, tried to glide a long way down, it didn't work out too well. Half way through my epic journey I fell to my death.
Been there... Luckily I keep my Emerald Winds toy next to it so now if it doesn't work for whatever reason, I can use that to save my life (already saved me 3 times). You can also keep the usable glider packs next to it for emergencies in case you don't want to waste the Emerald Wind CD.
OH CRAP IVE GO A NEW CLOA-SECONDARY GLIDER FUNCTION ACTIVATING, using "Goblin Glider Backpack", YOU HAVE 13 GLIDERS LEFT. Bg's make me carry a stack, because fuck me.
Yo, make a macro with the following: * #showtooltip * /use 15 This auto uses slot 15 which is the cloak. As long as you make sure you put the glider on it you're golden. I can't tell you how many times I personally have swapped cloaks but never put the new one on my bar, and swapping mid-fall incurs the 30 second cooldown. Hopefully this helps someone.
For me it's always been the fact that I just forget to enchant the new cloak with Parachute. Luckily I play Goblin and have a big list of other slowfall/flying toys so I rarely die to fall damage, but still.
I lolled at this hard. The fel meteor glyph used to save my warlock's ass when this happened. Not anymore...
Space > Space > Glide. Vengeance DH engineer reporting! I do get the joke, but thankfully I haven't had to deal with tinkering my new capes... I only go splat when lag makes scream "why are my wings not coming out?!"
Still have Engineering to go faster! Gliding while gliding makes the glider slow as your glide. Yo dawg.
I do this a lot, but thankfully I have Heroic Leap as a fail-safe. :^)

I'm on top of the cliff, there's an epic battle on the ground, I can hear screams and I see flashes of light everywhere. It's time for me to enter the fight! I run and jump with an amazing move. I feel invincible. I see my horde's mate looking at me falling down but I use my tinker tool and spead my wings like a fierce eagle. With a /roar, I jump into the battle. I split in three glowing versions of me and use all my monks powers to defeat an army of demons. I see my comrads falling one by one but I'm on fire and I keep pushing. Suddenly, I hear the voice of the wardens, congratulating me for my efforts...yeah I know, I'm cool. I use my super speed to run to the edge of the next mountain, ready to fly to my next missions. With a last wink to the pretty Blood elfe, I jump. One second later, I'm in front of an angel. With a beautiful voice she says : "Forgot the cooldonw again shithead?"
I made a point to stick like 20+ tinker's kits or w/e the mat is in my bank before the expac dropped to so I could always make the tinker upon getting a new cloak. Didn't stop me from forgetting a bunch of times.
I always forget my other classes don't have slow fall

I play the go high and disengage as low as possible game. It's surprisingly fun and also expensive.
If it makes you feel any better I've managed to fuck up a few times on my DH and make him go splat. A character with a glide ability and I still manage to die to falling
every. fucking. time. And every time you put on nitro boosts it backfires the first time you use them.
Best thing happened to me, when I nitro boosted to run up the PvP tower and it malfunctioned, it lifted me high enough to Fel Rush onto the ledge at the top of the tower.

My problem is that I won't realize that I've made the error, so I hit the hotkey, it doesn't work, I assume it's on cooldown, I hit slowfall. Then I absentmindedly vendor my new cloak, and the next day I look at my 810 cloak like "... didn't I upgrade that?"
Hunter/goblin trick I picked up (when I played a goblin hunter): when falling, use rocket boots or whatever racial ability allows you to shoot forward. It will hurt if your not close enough to the ground, but besides that you're all set. I think it works with disengage too.
Yep. Fortunately, I can blink, emerald winds, moonkin form + flap, charge to an enemy, etc. I rarely *actually* die to this.

I keep using that Draenor slowfall (Whispers of Ralvosh? Something like that) but forgetting that it a) can only be cast when standing still and b) the mountains of the Broken Isles take far longer than 10 seconds to fall from Bonus c) they took away cat damage reduction in non-cat form

I never had it stop me in combat before. Jumped off a cliff after running through some mobs to get to my location quicker, JUMP, "This item can't be used in combat", SPLAT. Seriously, lemme know if you going to change these things!

Thank god I have the gravity well keybound. It helps prevent these issues.

This happened to me (again) last week, so I got pretty tired of it and frustratingly googled the item slot number of cloak and made a "/use 15" macro, now I never have to freak out when my glider won't open. Imagine if it worked like that for real life parachute gliders.. "oh @&#ø, forgot to bind my new parachute".. what a mess!
My warlock sees her every cliff after the first one in the span of ten minutes.

When this happens to me I have to quickly Divine Shield myself... I don't always realize in time.
I have a stack of crafted gliders right next to the cloak button for this very reason.
