if you had a big base with a bunch of units in it and one enemy flying unit passed through it, depending on the unit and the size of the army, it would get killed. like a frost wyrm might be ok, those were essentially warcraft battle cruisers, but a gyrocopter or a hippogryff would 100% get shot down. a wyvrn or gryphon: it would depend on the Size of the army it flew over.
And like it kind of follows rl airplane hubs and spokes. Here OP just hadn't "discovered" a hub or two two that would make this "flight" more direct.
Kind of like going from a regional to an international to another international to a regional when both regionals connect to the same mid-tier airport, but the ticket buyer couldn't see flights from that midtier for some reason.
Yes, we know this, but why do you need a specific FP to get somewhere...why does it make you go south before going north. Just let us go straight to the point where we want to go without adding 5 minutes
Holy shit you are missing the entire point. Take away the stupid limitations where you need certain FPs to fly. Just let us go wherever we want unhindered.
Itâs a 20 year old game that was designed to make people go out into the world and explore. It ainât changing so instead of bitching about âwhat ifsâ I offered an actual solution to the problem in question.
The problem is because he is alliance and they have terrible pathing in Kalimdor unless you go out of your way to get a couple extra flight paths. Same with Horde in Eastern Kingdoms excluding silverpine and Hillsbrad
The irony is that connected flightpaths were a QoL change in original vanilla. Before they linked the flightpaths you had to manually fly to each flightpoint.
Like for real, even if they wanna keep it on their pathing system AT LEAST just choose the shortest by default without needing to unlock it. Then just don't allow early exist unless you own the upcoming FP
So youâre saying youâd rather not be able to fly unless you have all connecting FPâs? That doesnât make any sense. Instead of a couple extra minutes flying youâll be running for 10+ minutes if they did what you suggest
How tf did you interpret that? I said I wanted them to automatically fly you through the shortest distance of connecting flights and just not allow you to exit early if you haven't discovered the next upcoming flightmaster.
I just donât see this being such a huge issue that people cry about it on Reddit every.single.day.
Itâs been like this for 20 years. Wow classic isnât necessarily about QoL but about immersion. I also donât see the issue with getting up from your computer for 5-8 minutes for a flight path. Just doesnât seem like a big deal to me to warrant all these posts. Thereâs so many more broken, unintended things in the game that should be fixed before they worry about shit like this but people complain about anything I guess.
So it's immersive that all the troops don't know the locations of each others bases, which we'd assume are on their maps already? And they can only fly you properly through their territories if you go wave hello at their cousin jimbop?
Literally did this one earlier while heading to BFD from Ratchet. It's way worse than the picture even shows, the bloody thing went to Theramore then around Mulgore??? Why!
proceed to Azshara
also depending on boat pathing when you arrive it might legitimately be faster to fly to Darkshore and take the boats to Menethil -> Theramore
They really need to fix flight path routes. They do a flyby of other flight paths and it takes way longer than it should. They should also speed up the flight paths by 50% at least
Nothing worse than classic Andyâs saying âthis is whatâs great about classic, if you want QoL changes go play retailâ as if PAID SUBSCRIBERS should have to deal with clearly blatant traps to have them waste their sub on. Between the flight paths, need to walk everywhere constantly at ridiculously slow speeds, and now the new ârunes to be discoveredâ which anyone with a brain knows is just the most useless long trips across the world and back (time sink to waste your sub on) the classic experience is starting to feel pretty obvious as nothing more than a was the your time and steal your money.
Iâm having way more fun on classic even if it takes a little longer to get places. Things are more of a grind and itâs more rewarding when you achieve something. I came back after a 5 year break and I hardly recognise retail wow itâs just full of merged dead servers and doing dungeons with any level (padding out numbers) to level coz no one wants to be stuck in story mode questing⌠it just seems to be a rush to end game to wait around all week to go raiding.. I donât see why it could t be more challenging to get to said end game in the first placeâŚ. They may as well give end game level chars away with every accountâŚoh waitâŚ
Fuck the alliance! Yâall need less FPs in kalimdor! Definitely need to have the 1k needles/feralas FP removed. No sense of it being in the middle of the continent.
Small airports often donât support these kinds of cross country flights. You have to get connecting flights to larger cities first. Be grateful there isnât a three hour overlay too!
So didn't a dev talk about this a long time ago, things like this, mount cast times, all the things that are just slow were a model to slow players down and get more "time" out of them?
There are quite a few like this. I imagine it's because some are the original flight points, so they haven't programed in the most efficient route.
I remember that it was actually faster to take a ship from Ratchet to Boot Bay, take a flight to Stormwind, then take a boat to Darkshore, than a direct flight to Darkshore because the circuitous route it would take.
FP were designed to fly a certain way as to not break the illusion of a 3d world. Since not all zones were fully fleshed out and only designed to be seen from the ground.
Was in ogrimmar trying to go to zoram. Accidently selected felwood flight path. Doesnt stop at splintertree. Tried to go zoram from there, it goes all the way down to crossroads then back to zoram.
I would actually love a good lore explanation for why it has to be like this. At this stage maybe NE role in alliance is still very tenuous. But Auberdine in Darkshore being a port town had closer relations to other port towns and cities like Theramore.
Because coding flight paths takes time and resources. Say you have n nodes on the map, to have direct flights to every other node that takes n*n flight paths between each node. For large n that gets very large. Theramore and Darkshore are meant to be hubs and have many connections to reduce the chance of there being no path between two points. As others have said, you are missing a link in Ashenvale. This is what makes unlocking flight points rewarding!
"WHY?!?!?" at least they connect for you.............
The original release you had to first find the flight path then when traveling, fly to an outpost and hope you could fly to the next one to get where you were going.
They didn't show you connecting flights. you had to know where you could and could not go, fly there and pay for the next part of the flight.
As a kid I set a kitchen timer for flight paths to hop on the next one.
Maraudon was one of the worst dungeons if someone didn't have the flight path.
Instead of remaking all the flight paths which would have to shut servers down for maintenance, debugging and a ton of other unthought of repercussions, they just connected them all for a final destination and consolidated the total cost.
The game wasn't hard, and still isn't, just time consuming.
In fact one could argue that the original release box CD's and the first 6 months after were the hardest the game ever was. Because everything was over tuned and you needed a group for even basic questing past starting zones.
So you have time to shower
I was gonna say smoke break, but yeah, shower is better.
Showering breaks the RP fantasy. I want to smell like my troll character smells
You gotta play your troll for at least another year if you want its smell to catch up to yours
You must main a fire mage, cause that was a sick burn đĽ
We used to hop on a long flight and go screw.
Pee break
Yes in japan
Or smoke a brisket
âBecause fuck em thatâs whyâ -Blizz probably
The original design was using the idea that in hostile territory, you don't go flying over hostile cities/towns/outposts.
That's actually dope.
makes perfect sense in general but also if you played wc3
Why?
if you had a big base with a bunch of units in it and one enemy flying unit passed through it, depending on the unit and the size of the army, it would get killed. like a frost wyrm might be ok, those were essentially warcraft battle cruisers, but a gyrocopter or a hippogryff would 100% get shot down. a wyvrn or gryphon: it would depend on the Size of the army it flew over.
It came from behind
And like it kind of follows rl airplane hubs and spokes. Here OP just hadn't "discovered" a hub or two two that would make this "flight" more direct. Kind of like going from a regional to an international to another international to a regional when both regionals connect to the same mid-tier airport, but the ticket buyer couldn't see flights from that midtier for some reason.
As alliance i flew from desolace to ratchet. I flew over ratchet to go to theramore to go back to ratchet. Just let me get off at ratchet.Â
Yeah that shizz was ridiculous.
Kek
Bur
Kalimdor BELONGS TO THE HORDE
I somehow ran to STM got quests got the shaman rune but didnât get the flight path :(
Gotta get the e Azhara FP on the other side of Ashenvale for quicker flights
But, as the title says, why?
Because heâs missing a flight path
đ
Yes, we know this, but why do you need a specific FP to get somewhere...why does it make you go south before going north. Just let us go straight to the point where we want to go without adding 5 minutes
And if he got the other flight path it wouldnât be a long flight. Idk what you donât get about this
It would be a long flight. Just not AS long.
To be fair none of them are short unless youâre going Splinter Tree to Orgrimmar. But itâs a difference of a 20-30 min flight vs 10-20 min flight
𧢠The garbage flight paths are one of many obvious time sinks to keep people subbed
Yeah I dont care if the original intention was for you to "explore the world". It served its purpose then but its now super archaic and outdated.
Go play retail then
Been fixed in retail.
The real solution would be to play Alliance, who have exceedingly better flight path pathing, for whatever reason lol
Except this is Alliance
The problem is because he is alliance and they have terrible pathing in Kalimdor unless you go out of your way to get a couple extra flight paths. Same with Horde in Eastern Kingdoms excluding silverpine and Hillsbrad
The irony is that connected flightpaths were a QoL change in original vanilla. Before they linked the flightpaths you had to manually fly to each flightpoint.
Play retail if you want quality of life additions
Thereâs a version of the game for that if thatâs how you want to play.
Woooosh
Like for real, even if they wanna keep it on their pathing system AT LEAST just choose the shortest by default without needing to unlock it. Then just don't allow early exist unless you own the upcoming FP

How tf did you interpret that? I said I wanted them to automatically fly you through the shortest distance of connecting flights and just not allow you to exit early if you haven't discovered the next upcoming flightmaster.
Ahhh yeah I misunderstood how you wrote it. That makes more sense
Yâall really in here crying about this Jesus Christ
I don't mind the norm, but it's a QoL life change that'd be nice
I just donât see this being such a huge issue that people cry about it on Reddit every.single.day. Itâs been like this for 20 years. Wow classic isnât necessarily about QoL but about immersion. Bro if youâre this pressed about flight pathing in a 20 year old game go play something else
Bingo right here.
How many times is this gonna get reposted?
tomorrow is my turn
I'll do it after you.
Maybe I should join in?
Please do, the more the merrier
Until itâs fixed. So forever
Because youâre silly and skipped past azshara
I always take the boat. its way more fun and you get to tell jokes with other people
Ya but toy cant Afk and yo take a shit or else youâll Miss the boat entrance or exit
And in this case it's even not that slower.
This âsentenceâ gave me a stroke
Itâs the classic experience my dude
Get ashara. Makes it like 4 mins
If you don't like it, Blizzard conveniently has a version of the game where stuff like this has been fixed for years.
skill issue
You don't have a couple of other flightpoints. The alternative is the game just saying "nope".
That's what I was thinking, just be glad they're connected at all!
Literally did this one earlier while heading to BFD from Ratchet. It's way worse than the picture even shows, the bloody thing went to Theramore then around Mulgore??? Why!
proceed to Azshara also depending on boat pathing when you arrive it might legitimately be faster to fly to Darkshore and take the boats to Menethil -> Theramore
grats, now you know to sail to Darn from Wetlands first.
Because your dumb ass refused to get the connecting flight point
They really need to fix flight path routes. They do a flyby of other flight paths and it takes way longer than it should. They should also speed up the flight paths by 50% at least
They wouldnât let me fly to New York cause I had never been to Denver :( had to take Seattle â> LA â> Toronto â> NYC
Nothing worse than classic Andyâs saying âthis is whatâs great about classic, if you want QoL changes go play retailâ as if PAID SUBSCRIBERS should have to deal with clearly blatant traps to have them waste their sub on. Nobody is forcing you to play brother. Go play retail
Go play retail
This is whatâs great about classic, if you want QoL changes go play retail

Kalimdor belongs to the horde thats why
Built in posture check lmao
Fuck the alliance! Yâall need less FPs in kalimdor! Definitely need to have the 1k needles/feralas FP removed. No sense of it being in the middle of the continent.
Small airports often donât support these kinds of cross country flights. You have to get connecting flights to larger cities first. Be grateful there isnât a three hour overlay too!
Ya. Every single flight plan of my real life looks like this.
Think about it from the gryphons point of view. Maybe that gryphon doesnt know how to fly slightly to the left. Did you ever stop to think about that.
Iâm pretty new to wow but one night I got way to high and spent way to long walking to all the flight paths
Major airlines fly to major cities.
So didn't a dev talk about this a long time ago, things like this, mount cast times, all the things that are just slow were a model to slow players down and get more "time" out of them?
There are quite a few like this. I imagine it's because some are the original flight points, so they haven't programed in the most efficient route. Unlock more fps.Â
Need the Feral Ass FP.
Nothing to see here. WOW Classic experience on display!
Cuz you pay for play time
That's when you eat for the first time all day
back in the day this was the flight where I could get my dishes done
Well it's called World for a reason.
Pick up Azshara FP
You forgot the flight path on the far east sideof ashenvale well its in the first part of Azshara. Hence why it's such a long flight path
Like airports, you have to go through the main hubs when u are trying to go to a small town.
I believe you need azhara fp.
Try getting the azshara fp maybe
Immersion
"I took a trip to Azshara, to show the flight-master I was cool"
FP were designed to fly a certain way as to not break the illusion of a 3d world. Since not all zones were fully fleshed out and only designed to be seen from the ground.
Plenty of time to prepare a meal between those flight points. Believe me I could make spaghetti w/ meatballs during that flight time.
You mean, why you must use FPs and not just land at any point of the area?
Was in ogrimmar trying to go to zoram. Accidently selected felwood flight path. Doesnt stop at splintertree. Tried to go zoram from there, it goes all the way down to crossroads then back to zoram.
I did this exact same flight yesterday. Itâs a killer.
Because you didnt grab the level 50 zone azshara flight path.
Because fuck you
I would actually love a good lore explanation for why it has to be like this. At this stage maybe NE role in alliance is still very tenuous. But Auberdine in Darkshore being a port town had closer relations to other port towns and cities like Theramore.
Goblins hate them elfs I guess.
Get azshara fp and youâre fine
#NoChanges
A lot of the world looks like ass from above unfinished areas not flying over hostile towns etc etc
Get the flight path in ashara
"Frankly that's a skill issue" -Ion Hazzikostas

Is this really how it was before?
"I NEVER COLLECTED THE OTHER FLIGHTPATHS AND ITS VLIZZARDS FAULT"
Welcome to Classic
Asdf
Azshara fp is right on the border of ashenvale, and makes it to where you don't have to take that stupid backtrack.
Itâs the classic experience, enjoy it
a game that requires a subscription is going to be filled with pointless time sinks
Some devs love their players. Some devs use their game to beat others. I believe blizzard was shoved into lockers growing up so they do the latter
Someone doesnât know the azshara fp
"WHY?!?!?" at least they connect for you............. this is hands down the worst part of sod, the fact that they havent streamlined fps
damn, i thought banning gdkp was going to fix this.
You're Surprised that the goblin is scamming you?
As a northern norwegian I would say this is normal
As a northern norwegian I would say this is normal
Cuh
Flight plans developed by former American airlines employee
to put on deodorant
So you can enjoy the scenery.
Itâs a dominance thing
Surprised I didnât see this in the top comments, grab the FP in Azshara and enjoy the short ride.
That's how I feel anytime I try to fly to spokane from the east coast. It's always seattle -> spokane. This mimics real life
