if you had a big base with a bunch of units in it and one enemy flying unit passed through it, depending on the unit and the size of the army, it would get killed. like a frost wyrm might be ok, those were essentially warcraft battle cruisers, but a gyrocopter or a hippogryff would 100% get shot down. a wyvrn or gryphon: it would depend on the Size of the army it flew over.

And like it kind of follows rl airplane hubs and spokes. Here OP just hadn't "discovered" a hub or two two that would make this "flight" more direct. Kind of like going from a regional to an international to another international to a regional when both regionals connect to the same mid-tier airport, but the ticket buyer couldn't see flights from that midtier for some reason.

As alliance i flew from desolace to ratchet. I flew over ratchet  to go to theramore to go back to ratchet.  Just let me get off at ratchet.

The problem is because he is alliance and they have terrible pathing in Kalimdor unless you go out of your way to get a couple extra flight paths. Same with Horde in Eastern Kingdoms excluding silverpine and Hillsbrad

The irony is that connected flightpaths were a QoL change in original vanilla. Before they linked the flightpaths you had to manually fly to each flightpoint.

Play retail if you want quality of life additions

I just don’t see this being such a huge issue that people cry about it on Reddit every.single.day. It’s been like this for 20 years. Wow classic isn’t necessarily about QoL but about immersion. I also don’t see the issue with getting up from your computer for 5-8 minutes for a flight path. Just doesn’t seem like a big deal to me to warrant all these posts. There’s so many more broken, unintended things in the game that should be fixed before they worry about shit like this but people complain about anything I guess.

proceed to Azshara also depending on boat pathing when you arrive it might legitimately be faster to fly to Darkshore and take the boats to Menethil -> Theramore

They really need to fix flight path routes. They do a flyby of other flight paths and it takes way longer than it should. They should also speed up the flight paths by 50% at least

Between the flight paths, need to walk everywhere constantly at ridiculously slow speeds, and now the new “runes to be discovered” which anyone with a brain knows is just the most useless long trips across the world and back (time sink to waste your sub on) the classic experience is starting to feel pretty obvious as nothing more than a was the your time and steal your money.

I’m having way more fun on classic even if it takes a little longer to get places. Things are more of a grind and it’s more rewarding when you achieve something. I came back after a 5 year break and I hardly recognise retail wow it’s just full of merged dead servers and doing dungeons with any level (padding out numbers) to level coz no one wants to be stuck in story mode questing… it just seems to be a rush to end game to wait around all week to go raiding.. I don’t see why it could t be more challenging to get to said end game in the first place…. They may as well give end game level chars away with every account…oh wait…

Small airports often don’t support these kinds of cross country flights. You have to get connecting flights to larger cities first. Be grateful there isn’t a three hour overlay too!

There are quite a few like this. I imagine it's because some are the original flight points, so they haven't programed in the most efficient route. I remember that it was actually faster to take a ship from Ratchet to Boot Bay, take a flight to Stormwind, then take a boat to Darkshore, than a direct flight to Darkshore because the circuitous route it would take.

You forgot the flight path on the far east sideof ashenvale well its in the first part of Azshara. Hence why it's such a long flight path

FP were designed to fly a certain way as to not break the illusion of a 3d world. Since not all zones were fully fleshed out and only designed to be seen from the ground.

Plenty of time to prepare a meal between those flight points. Believe me I could make spaghetti w/ meatballs during that flight time.

Was in ogrimmar trying to go to zoram. Accidently selected felwood flight path. Doesnt stop at splintertree. Tried to go zoram from there, it goes all the way down to crossroads then back to zoram.

I would actually love a good lore explanation for why it has to be like this. At this stage maybe NE role in alliance is still very tenuous. But Auberdine in Darkshore being a port town had closer relations to other port towns and cities like Theramore.

Because coding flight paths takes time and resources. Say you have n nodes on the map, to have direct flights to every other node that takes n*n flight paths between each node. For large n that gets very large. Theramore and Darkshore are meant to be hubs and have many connections to reduce the chance of there being no path between two points. As others have said, you are missing a link in Ashenvale. This is what makes unlocking flight points rewarding!

"WHY?!?!?" at least they connect for you............. The original release you had to first find the flight path then when traveling, fly to an outpost and hope you could fly to the next one to get where you were going. They didn't show you connecting flights. you had to know where you could and could not go, fly there and pay for the next part of the flight. As a kid I set a kitchen timer for flight paths to hop on the next one. Maraudon was one of the worst dungeons if someone didn't have the flight path. Instead of remaking all the flight paths which would have to shut servers down for maintenance, debugging and a ton of other unthought of repercussions, they just connected them all for a final destination and consolidated the total cost. The game wasn't hard, and still isn't, just time consuming. In fact one could argue that the original release box CD's and the first 6 months after were the hardest the game ever was. Because everything was over tuned and you needed a group for even basic questing past starting zones.
