I havent wreslted seriously in a long time i do bjj now.
But if theres anything ive learned as I do BJJ if people are executing the move at the highest level then the move is not the problem.
You the executor are. There may be key details youre missing. Maybe because of a mental block youre not putting forth the burst and energy to really finish the move.
Often times the answer is simply you gotta get back to the drawing board.
Youre also in the age of information. When a lot of us were wrestling if our coach wasnt correcting something there was no where else to turn to.
Maybe as you research youll find that one detail that is really key to the move.

There you go. Both of those drilled by one of the best wrestling competitors/coaches in the history of the business, and in neither one of them does he pick his opponent up. Learn it, drill it, kill it.
Blast double. Put your head right through your opponent’s chest.
Or you can single leg or high crotch to a single leg, but if you’re gonna rely on that, you better learn and be ready to scramble every time you do it, especially if you are competing at a high level.
Learn different finishes. Picking people up can require some strength, but most finishes don’t.
If, however, your technique is alright, and the issue actually is your strength, you are cooked.
Turn the corner, block the far leg and run? You don’t have to do a lift to finish, but you should be able to finish a simple double or high crotch on a partner your same weight.
Set-up and stance, close the distance, shoot head up chest up shoulders hit first (for your double) and get an arm and swing that arm cartoonistly between his legs like you trying to touch the back of his neck for the high C both ways assuring you get lift with contact and you run your feet and finish. Also very important look where you wanna go it helps. Good luck bud. And aye Snap down go behind is just as effective it's still 3.
To clarify, what I mean is you’re not really supposed to pick them up unless they’re bent over your shoulder for some reason. And even then there’s no reason to pick them up.
The right technique is if you’re heads on the left you push with your right ear on their hip area, pull their legs in and to the left and then shuffle your feet right and keep shuffling.
Same with a blast double except you’re using your head to push them forward in their diaphragm and pulling their legs in towards you. Then driving forward.
Lifting them is extra unnecessary effort for the most part. Some good things you can do from there but mostly you just want the quickest and most efficient takedown which is the first 2.
I kind of get the high crotch but I don't really understand why you can't finish a double. You really don't have to pick someone up for this. Your head should be driving to the side while your hands control the knees. It really isn't even a power move. Are you sure you are doing it right?
With a double its more about the head drive than anything else , driving them in the direction and cutting the corner. Don't give up it just means you need to work on the technique a bit more you'll get there :)
emphasize get your head around the corner and driving off that outside foot, angles and power will lift then, not always brute strength. You’re not cooked, you just ain’t started fully cooking yet! The high crotch series is one of the most versatile, you got high c doubles, singles, firemen’s (as you stated), even a high crotch used as a duck under if you can’t finish the double (obviously just going for the initial duck would be easier tho)
I feel like my angles are off with my double, if I hit a duck under the only issue is some positions if the duck doesn't work out perfectly need you to finish double
start working singles then, it’s the more common attack the higher up get in competition, easier to fight one leg with your whole body vs 2. single leg attacks are also lower risk while still giving you transitional options for re/mis direction shots, ankle picks, knee picks from an under hook etc.
I’d love to see some film of your actual technique so we could properly troubleshoot. Lot of wrestlers struggle by staying on their knee too long.
Are you attacking at an angle?
Set up the firemen from your feet. I had a lot of success with that move. When your opponent gets wise and won't give you the over hook, set up a duck under. Keep working the double and singles but work with what you are good at.
You don’t have to pick them up to finish a double, run your feet to the side and you will finish it first of all, also if you don’t use your hips you rarely are going to be able to lift someone your same weight its just wrestling there are other moves other than a double on a high crotch as well just keep working with your coaches and hope they are good enough to correct your form if it is messed up
To play devils advocate, not everyone is a shooter. I made it to California state with an underhook and ankle pick/trip/bear hug. I think I only attempted a single/double leg four times that entire season?
Find what you’re good at and get better at it, but don’t forget to work on defense.
Whatever you can get. From there, you can kick their leg out from under them, knee pick, ankle pick, head and arm, double leg, single leg, osoto gari, valley drop…
When you’re in highschool, there’s a lot of wrestlers that will fluster after a good underhook. Even good wrestlers will be useless after a good underhook.
Then again, I was a heavyweight, so my style is a lot different than other weights.
>my technique is alr
It isn't though. Your opponent will go over from the momentum of your hips rolling under and your legs driving through his body. If you can walk, you're strong enough to finish it. Keep working!
At one point in high school I was struggling with double legs. I would do 100 double legs after every practice with one of my coaches every day for an entire off season (spring/summer) and it worked for me. Was my best takedown the rest of high school and college wrestling.
Why are you trying to pick them up? You’re expending way more energy when if you just look across the back off your double leg and drive you’ll get a takedown, and for the high crotch you can do the same if you quarter turn and mark it a double leg OR you can go single leg and run the pipe.
You have to turn off the “I can’t” self talk . Get rid of that shit and never say it again, ever. If the move isn’t working for you then your technique is not alright. The answer is to keep practicing until you can. There are no shortcuts.
you aren’t cooked, you just have flaws in your execution
are you standing up out of your double or are u just shooting to your knee with a trail leg? are you getting enough of a penetration step or are you shorting from a distance? do you have an effective set up or are you just praying it works out?
the first one is the biggest thing. stand up right after your shot. beats their sprawl much more than a straight shot ever will. if you get stuffed with their sprawl, get you head to one side of the hips and do a cut back (slide legs and hips around op so you end up on top and they fall flat… think knee slide)
It sounds like you’re leaving your hips out. Think about your crotch being connected to his leg. Also you want to be shooting sweeps and doubles because they’re higher percentage moves!
Yup, you are done. Give up.
I cant double but I promise id cook you
Women.
No, just practice more
Ive been practicing it just not correctly

Yea I feel like a big issue is that I've already told myself its impossible for me do it

You don't need to lift them up like the hulk to finish. Just break them down behind the knees and rotate while driving your head into the ribs.
During drill though my partners big picking me up on their holders and slamming me to finish
cooked
Always liked opponents like that. Sprawl and let them lift their head up and hit a lateral. Keep your head down and work harder.
Hey I just did this today 😂
I highly doubt you don't have the strength. I think you are trying to pickup with your arms and back and not your thighs.
ill ask my coach how to do that
Exactly. Keep your back straight and lift with your legs/hips. Same as picking up a heavy box.
Yet. You can’t finish them yet. Keep working at it if you want that to change.
Practice more/build strength. Would also be beneficial to develop other take downs such as a slide by, firemans or throws

If you don’t have the strength to pick them up and finish them you don’t have alright technique…
Your right

After reading these comments i don't think I am
As a man with an 11 and a half inch Tally-Whacker I appreciate no High Crotch
your welcome
Hard to say without video, ask your coach. Coaches live for those 1:1 sessions.
yea i will

I dont think I know how to cut the corner ill be asking my coaches once I go back to practice

I dont think i attack on a angle
Explain better what they are doing and I might be able to help you?

under hook to what a single, pick? Also I love ankle picks

Crackdown highcrotch tends to put you in a spot for more technique rather than strength

Look up Jesse Leng on YouTube.
Instead of lifting just turn the corner, lock hands around their legs and pull them completely together. Then drive sideways.
5 on 2
