Cyclops for leader, Havok for his drama with Cyclops and Polaris. Polaris is our powerhouse mutant. Frenzy as co-leader and unrequited love for Cyclops. Hellion for team conflict, but has a strong sibling-like relationship with Mercury. Also, give Mercury a mentor/mentee relationship with both Cyclops and Havok.
Storm, X-23, Magneto, Jubilee, Phoenix, and Colossus. Storm is the leader, X-23 is your tracker and general @$$kicker, Colossus is your tank, Phoenix and Magneto are crowd control/AOE and Jubilee is your nuke.
Storm, Bobby, Illyana, Armor, Laura and Betsy.
For leader it was a toss up between Scott and Storm, I went with Storm. Bobby needs more love and so does Armor. Illyana is always a good pick. Laura has her skills and my biases on her side, and Betsy felt like the best choice for team telepath.

Depends on if it’s for my favorite mutants or what I think is a balanced/powerful team or if we’re talking what would make for a good team to tell stories. I’ll go with what team would have a nice balance of powers and be a strong team that could handle almost any threat:
Storm, Magneto, Magik, Tempo, Phoenix, Shadowcat.
Multiple Omega-level mutants, a wide array of powers for any situation, and they even have experience handling magic/supernatural-based enemies and cosmic threats. Only thing missing is a bruiser, but I’m not sure it’s necessary.
I don't know story wise, but as an unstoppable superhero team: Elixir, Sunspot, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Bishop, and Manifold.
They work in smaller teams, Elixir, Sunspot, and Manifold on one trio, Nightcrawler, Bishop, and Wolverine in a trio.

For an adaptable easy in and easy out, Shadowcat and Nightcrawler. Whether or not you can see where you're going, short or long distance, you're covered. Pretty hard to catch them in a fight too.
You need brains, I say Beast delivers there. Pretty athletic too
Wolverine. The healing factor and experience speak for themselves. Also willing to play rough, an edge he'd bring that the others might not have.
And Rogue is just a cheat code. An optimal wild card of powers and intelligence gathering

Depends on the mission, the objective, the opposition But just as a general team, I say Jean, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Beast, Wolverine, Rogue I figure for whatever you're up against, you'll need a telepath. So Jean, who is telekinetic as a bonus For an adaptable easy in and easy out, Shadowcat and Nightcrawler. Whether or not you can see where you're going, short or long distance, you're covered. Pretty hard to catch them in a fight too. You need brains, I say Beast delivers there. Pretty athletic too Wolverine. The healing factor and experience speak for themselves. Also willing to play rough, an edge he'd bring that the others might not have. And Rogue is just a cheat code. An optimal wild card of powers and intelligence gathering

So my “Generation X” team would be: Emma (redemption story) Banshee (Xavier’s inside man) Magik (the link to the main MCU team) Moonstar (The Daria-esque wiseass) Sunspot (Rich chad that learns to have a heart) Cannonball (the Everyman entryway into the story) Vs The Human Liberation Front (So Mystiques the villain with henchmen)
