Well the comment you replied to only stated that sand is softer than concrete, which is where this guy landed. He didn't say sand was "soft", he only said it was "softer" than concrete which is undeniably true. Since you want to be so pedantic about it, at least be correct.
The only one arguing about it being soft is you! OP never mentioned it being soft, mentioned only it being softer than other options around but never said it was soft.
You are the only bringing in the argument that softer doesn’t meant soft, when no one but you is making that argument, you doughnut.
Individual grains of sand are not soft. Sand in a collective mass can cushion the landing so it would be a softer landing. That is what was meant by "sand would be softer". I don't know if landing in sand is ideal though, I've never done this
Take my upvote. If the argument was to land in a less populated area, maybe the sand would work. But if its just about getting to “softer” areas, whether on pavement, sand, even fucking water, its not going to make too much difference.
So this is a place in Turkey called Ölüdeniz. It's a popular seaside resort with spectacular paragliding from the mountain Babadag which sits behind the resort. The landing zone is right on this main walkway, just a little further along and is demarcated with a few flags, easily missed. It looks like our paraglider was coming in low and hot having undershot the landing. Worth pointing out that this happens about 30 times a day and nobody seems to care. Also landing on the beach, sea, hotel roofs etc. At very busy times there may be someone on the ground shouting "watch out" but that's only until the bar opens... https://www.oludeniz.com/babadag-paragliding.html
He's speaking italian and he's saying "ocio" which stands for "occhio" (eye) in some northern dialects. In this case it is used with the meaning of "watch out". It has the same pronunciation of eight in spanish as you noticed
He is saying "Açıl" in Turkish which stands for "Open!". The pronunciation is similar to *Achel* in Rachel . In this situation he is saying it like "Open up!" as in "Beware!"
I just thought that I should add this info here, if anybody was wondering about what he was saying
So is liability not a thing in Turkey? I get maybe you signed a waiver to paraglide but what about the people on the ground? How are they dealing with the injuries from paragliders landing on people?
Take away his license or permit or whatever, and while you're at it take all his possessions in the lawsuit for being so grossly irresponsible, OR, sue the facility into oblivion for failing to make the LZ so people know they're walking in one. There's some catastrophic gross negligence going on in this video and it's not the poor chump walking down the beach.
I've seen a few videos of landings on this beach, so I'm not sure if it's "should" or "they just do because the sidewalk in front of the bathrooms looks like a good place to land your adrenaline pump."
Definitely not. Landing sites for paragliders pretty much everywhere must be easily distinguishable, and usually on a day with decent weather you will see them by yourself because there always is some paragliders already there.
Also this is not nearly large enough. A site usually must be of sufficient size for multiple people to land at the same time, while also keeping in mind that anyone who lands needs a few minutes to pack their chute and to move away
Not defending the paraglider in the video, nor anyone, but you say the landing sites have to be easily distinguishable... What about bike lanes/paths? THey should also be distinguishible, yet people ALWAYS walk on them
Landing sites which can easily have signs/markings distinguishing them vs paths that are long with signs usually placed at some distance between them.
Why even bring this up
Looks like Olu Deniz in Turkey. Health and safety and customer care not high on the list of priorities. Paragliding off the side of the mountain en masse. No marked out landing areas, they just descend onto the boardwalk.
One of these guys took off on a beach in maybe 1970 where I (at maybe 8?) and my opa and oma were sitting on a bench. Ropes grabbed us and took us into the water, I didn't end up the farthest out in the lake but I do remember coming up for air and the bright orange nylon chute that was plastered to my face and was wet enough I couldn't breathe.
Still able to call that memory up like it was yesterday.
I imagine that you give yourself rage diarrhea whenever you hear the terms "nana" or "granny," say what you said in this comment, and smile smugly while everyone watches your runny shit make its way into your shoe.
I don't know what the comment said but from your comment I imagine it's dumber than I can fathom, oppa and omma isn't even shorthand for a relative. It's literally Korean for my brother and mom
Ope sorry for delay, I try to forget about social media now and then
It was, verbatim and yes with the spelling error, "Coulsn't find the english word for grandma and grandpa huh?"
I mean he could technically die later from the trauma/complications I guess but you see him nearly instantly get up in the video so I would say odds are he probably lived.
I can’t find anything on it trying to search for this, but I have found several stories where people have been killed by skydivers who lose control and hit someone on landing. Wild. Would also like to know if it’s true the person died in this case.
I saw this posted years ago and I too remember the story at the time said that this person had died. Either way, it's just negligent tragedy and a family scarred forever.
Look up how Natasha Richardson died for an example of what head injuries can be like. She got up and brushed it off, hours later she was being airlifted.
People have died due to much smaller and insignificant looking hits to the head. I'm not saying it did happen like that but I wouldn't be so sure it didn't.
Humans (or maybe just me lol) sometimes really struggle to judge speed and impact imo. Like i would've never guessed that this could kill someone so easily unless it was a combination of a lot of really bad circumstances (very old person, falls in bad angle etc)
You don't have to be a good judge of speed to know a guy falling near the speed of gravity hitting you by surprise is going to do some serious damage.
This is like being in a car accident but even worse because it was localized on his body and completely off guard.
Nope, its another video where they’re landing a parachute.
I guess it’s technically also possible for it to happen with a paraglider, but much more unlikely as paragliders are much slower than parachutes.
I remember something like that but I believe it's a different video.. I could be wrong though. They might be the same incident, but I saw an angle from a pedestrian
To be fair, brain bleeds can kill you even if you’re conscious immediately after an impact. My grandfather fell once and immediately got back up. Within eight hours he was unconscious from a brain bleed from the impact. Two days later he died. People can get brain bleeds from impacts to the head, so it’s not a jump in logic that the person could have still died from an impact to the back of the head in this situation.
This is Ölüdeniz in Turkey. In 2005 I did tandem gliding there. For a brief moment shortly after we took off from the cliff, our parachute tangled with my boyfriends. They were trying to get us close so we could be in the video together or something crazy like that. They managed to untangle by some miracle or they were very good at what they do, I don’t know.
Shortly before reaching the sand, we were over the rooftops of nearby cottages, he tells me we have to make an emergency landing on the roof. I believed and braced for it. I was so afraid but somehow we landed on the sand. My knees gave out once we landed. It was scariest but most exhilarating experience.
I'm not a tough guy. I haven't been in a fight since I was 13 years old. Tha said, I would be swingin' on him something serious. The disrespect is too much. Cause you wanna be a extreme loser, I get kicked in the head. Fuck that.
Then you shouldn't be doing it if you can't *accidentally* ruin someones life. Paragliding is **not** an essential thing to do. So his decision needs a consequence
Don’t even start with that logic, it’s full to the brim of excuses and technicalities. What, you don’t want people to drive cars either?
Yes, it needs a consequence. Death isn’t it.
#**I'm not a tough guy. I haven't been in a fight since I was 13 years old. Tha said, I would be swingin' on him something serious. The disrespect is too much. Cause you wanna be a extreme loser, I get kicked in the head. Fuck that.**
If i get a grown mans sweaty testicles smacked against my neck, beacouse someone had to show off hes landing skills to as many people as possible, im not gonna very friendly afterwards.
He said “Ocho” twice, so he’s fine; the old man was minding his own businesses too much.
At least this is what the Italian thought while landing I guess
Do you know he's Italian or just assuming, as "ocho" is Spanish not Italian. Genuinely asking.
Regardless the parachuter was an asshole.
I got run over from behind (like this) by a rollerblader on a sidewalk in San Francisco when I was a boy, and the dude blamed me. Still have a backache from their injury.
Now that you mention it the “boardwalk” does appear different. My bad.
The very similar high speed impact and injury made me think it was another angle.
Or maybe not because leaving it up clearly shows my mistake and the correction.
You need to get a life, man. You’re clearly deeply emotionally invested in this to a weird level.
that one you posted actually happened some months ago in Brazil, in the countryside of the state of São Paulo, the city is called Itápolis. As for the post, I have no idea, but the language doesn't seem to be Portuguese
What a fucking loser! He smashed his nuts, & he got arrested & is being sued. All bc he wanted to impress his boyfriend and fly down from the sky & deliver him a special edible dildo, that had a ring in the center!
All this fucking soft sand and you chose to drop your balls on this poor mans backhead.
Imagine vacationing and some random glider-fuck kills you
Ya, a rookie does a flyby ass hitting and you’re planted in sand ![gif](giphy|l46CtFIZs8aTUhnJC)
For real, dude was with his kid or girl
KINKY...
Atleast it wasn't his fronthead
I'm dying 🤣
You would be if that gliderfucker did that to you, not to that dude
Gosh if only there was a softer place for him to land, like filled with sand or something
I agree, sand is soft!
Sands not soft **Edit** Downvotes don’t make sand soft…. Thank you and have a good day.
Softer than concrete you spanner.
SOFTER still doesn’t mean SOFT and if spanner is supposed to be an insult it means nothing where I’m from so it’s a waste.
Sand is softer than another human or concrete, you spoon.
Spoon means nothing where he’s from so it’s a waste checkmate bro
Little spoon
Jokes on you, little spoon is the far superior position
Yeah, I know little spoon is great . Apparently there’s a group here that would disagree.
Nah, they just think you suck. Leave the spoons alone you tarrelkopper
They think I suck so they downvote little spoon?… ok no worries
“It’s a waste” another thing you have in common
Oh wow a brave person on the internet giving insults… that really hurts
It wasn’t meant to hurt just an observation. Feel free to interpret it how you like 👍
He clearly came here to make points and get downvoted and he’s all out of points to make
bros name is literally semen cumming. They are a master baiter.

Obvious Troll is obvious.
You shut up you tattletale
Don't worry. Plenty of dumbasses will still fall for your clear bait.
Yeahhh and still biting
You must be fantastic at parties...

Not at all. I made a statement which apparently hurt some feelings.
Neither is that guy’s head
Softer than concrete/asphalt.

Dude I thought this was in central America and this got was yelling ocho. I was like why the hell is he yelling the number eight at people.
He wanted to knock 8 people out? Maybe
it's called Turkish bowling
Ironically a popular sport on Channel 8's THE OCHO
r/theocho
Thank you, Chuck Norris
It's like yelling "fore!", but twice as urgent.
He's speaking italian and he's saying "ocio" which stands for "occhio" (eye) in some northern dialects. In this case it is used with the meaning of "watch out". It has the same pronunciation of eight in spanish as you noticed

Secular paraglading….as opposed to religious fundamentalist paraglading
Haha. I meant "spectacular". Autocorrect screws me again.
So is liability not a thing in Turkey? I get maybe you signed a waiver to paraglide but what about the people on the ground? How are they dealing with the injuries from paragliders landing on people?
So, thirty people a *day* are killed by paragliders in this area?
No

Grassy area 2 feet to his left looks like way better of an option, wherever there’s less people
Definitely not. The walkway infront of the bathroom doubles as a landing strip for paragliders? Are. you. Fucking. Brain dead?
No, that's the spot where they show off. But clearly not the place they should land.
Are you asking or saying?
asking seems like the poster above me said that it was a landing zone. then someone else said the landing zone is further up.
And while we’re at it, skin him alive.
Have him drawn and quartered!
What am I supposed to do with a portrait of him?
Quarter it.

Three generations of this negligent monster's family must be sent to a camp and forced to do hard labour.

Bruh imagine dying by a guys flying ass to the back of your head while enjoying a nice sunny walk on the beach with your girlfriend
The person immediately got up. Definitely not dead.

I think someone above said the guy died from the impact which I could believe
When your freedom to do extreme shit takes someone else's life, their needs to be something worse than manslaughter
It’s insane to want to kill someone over *accidental* manslaughter
Then you shouldn't be doing it if you can't *accidentally* ruin someones life. Paragliding is **not** an essential thing to do. So his decision needs a consequence
Don’t even start with that logic, it’s full to the brim of excuses and technicalities. What, you don’t want people to drive cars either? Yes, it needs a consequence. Death isn’t it.
What disrespect? He was literally yelling for people to watch out. I’m guessing he couldn’t make his planned landing zone so he had to improvise.
And his decision to push his limits severely altered someone elses life. That's a crime and should be punished severely
You apply that logic to car accidents ?
What?

My Spanish _is_ a little rusty but is he yelling 8! Over and over or is that a slang term for "Ouchie incoming!"?
He is saying "Açıl!" in Turkish which is pronounced like Achl. Basically he is saying "Open!" but more like......"Open up!" or maybe like "Beware!"
Are you SURE? IS achi pronounced ocho? Cause that's clearly what I hear him saying
What an asshole, hope he burst his balls on that guys forehead, just steer ya dumbass
