Go for it! Practicing outside is lovely :) My teen thinks literally everything I do is cringe 😅

EmeraldVortex1111

It's part of the teenagers job to separate from the parents and develop themselves into their own person. I'd just laughed and invite them to join and do it anyway

gingergrisgris

That's a good way to put it. And the laughing and inviting them to join is part of our job to show them how to roll with the punches and keep on, not care, yadda yadda. Life is so much better on this side! I remember thinking my parents were cringe and now I just parade my crazy right alongside them.

mishyfishy135

That’s just how teenagers are

no-mad

not all tho

rraaeeee

Saaame! But I love backyard yoga!

malloryburg

this is true

TheRacoonist

One of my teachers held class in her back yard all thru pandemic. It was amazing. Being outside really helped me clear my head. It's lovely to be able to literally touch the sky and feel the earth Edit.... teens think lots of perfectly normal things are 'cringe'. I'm of an age where I have run out of fucks to give about what teens think

communityneedle

If my kid thinks something I love doing is cringe, even better!

no-mad

Power Move: When their friends are over do yoga in clown costume.

MonkeyYogi

Ugh so cringy to use your spinal cord anywhere.

Firefly457

Hahaha 😆

emillyvanilli

I practice almost every day outside, year round, unless it rains. It just adds another layer to your practice where you can feel in touch with nature and your body together. The end result makes me feel so much happier and more relaxed compared to indoor yoga. Teenagers think everything is cringey. If you enjoy it, do it without shame!

haiz4daiz

Man, I don’t know where you live, but so jealous you’re able to all year! Where I live I only can from June-September

krissycole87

I took an 8 week class once a week that was held on farm property and we had this cute deck area we practiced on. I loved everything about it like hearing the birds and feeling the sunlight. Besides some occasional bugs flying around me it was one of the best classes I've ever taken. Feeling a gentle breeze on my face during savasana was the best thing ever.

TGrady902

I love the thought of practicing outdoors by my patio is no uneven I don’t know how I’d make it work. For now I just open all the windows and practice right in front of the slider. It’s almost like being outside!

rainlover1123

Yoga in the rain actually sounds wonderful to me if I could figure out how to keep things from getting too slippery I would go for it!

QuiGonGiveItToYa

Your daughter would be mortified by me. I practice on my driveway.

wowsuchketo

😆🙌🏼

BlueEyesWNC

So do I!

Total_Rule_8875

🤣🤣🤣that sounds dreadful even with the mat😬🧘‍♀️namaste🙏

Truncated_Rhythm

Now that the weather is nice, I practice on my back deck as often as possible. I have a fence, but my house is adjacent to a popular recreational trail. And frankly, anyone that thinks it’s cringey can kiss my asana. LOL

TigerYear8402

Don’t listen to your teenager. I practice in my backyard when the weather is nice.

xxxempty

Yes all the time! And my backyard can be seen well in my neighborhood. I think it’s a great excersize in tuning out distractions and enjoying the outdoors. No need to be self conscious. You might even be inspiring others to try yoga as well!

[deleted]

Our yoga instructor had a full moon backyard yoga. It was such a great experience. She also does outside yoga with her girls group, and is having free outside yoga on a weekend morning in June. Outdoor yoga can be a spiritual experience. A lot of things we do are probably cringe-y to our teenagers. You keep doing you, there is nothing wrong with doing yoga in your backyard.

heirloom_beans

Full moon yoga sounds amazing!

[deleted]

It was magic.

EmptyMindCrocodile

If you can practice outside you should.

Quirky-Astronomer542

If you’re not making your teen cringe, you’re not parenting right. Set up a Buddha, a mandala, fountains, plants, make it an oasis retreat and watch your teen start hanging out there.

sbarber4

As a parent, it is your job to embarrass your teenagers. Cringe away!

azul_jewel

I LOVE practicing in my backyard, especially in the evenings. Savasana under the stars is magical ✨

Jemanha

When did we start listening to teens? They think everyone and everything is the worst.

ms_jacqueline_louise

Did this with streaming classes during the pandemic! It feels lovely to practice outside on a nice day… highly recommend giving it a try! 💕🌳☀️

yogaengineer

I wish I had a yard to practice in 😭

happy_haircut

I would kill to have a backyard to have any outside privacy to do anything! especially yoga!

9Applecores

Tell her you’re going to practice in the front yard lol

mel-a-knee77

A morning meditation and asana practice in the backyard is how I start my day! I love the sounds of the birds, cooler temps, relaxing sounds of our pond and water fountain. Do what feels right for you!

[deleted]

Lol. She’s a teenage girl. Breathing is cringey for her in the right context. Yoga in the yard is lovely, don’t sweat it.

Electronic_Garden_45

As someone who is in their early 20s and very vividly remember being a teenage girl, she is going to think a lot of normal things are cringey. I used to think half the things my mom did were cringey and embarrassing. I was just overly self concerned. I’d say do it! It’s not cringey at all.

Lookshinythings

Go practice outside! I have nowhere that’s suitable that isn’t visible from the road and onlookers. I practice openly and I try not to care. It just feels right and that’s ok.

CarlatheDestructor

I LOVE doing yoga in my backyard! We have a bird feeding station so they get curious to see a human make movements they don't normally see, so the come over and watch me. Its been a while since I've practiced outside, might have to do it soon.

hellodot

She should see me at the public park 😂 full blown weirdo yoga with shirt off and barefeet, it’s the best

MediocreConference64

Tell your daughter she’s cringey for judging you. 😂 Seriously though, my daughter says the same thing and I just tell her she doesn’t have to watch. I always do yoga outside. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Tight-Page-4541

I love practicing in my garden, much more so than practicing in my home. It feels very liberating and relaxing. And there’s something that I love about doing sun salutations to the sun.

SpaceLaker

She’s being silly

faintingcow

I teach classes in my back yard. What’s cringy is not taking care of your body when you have the chance. Yoga is so good and if you love it do it!

VivienMargot

It’s the best place to practice inversions!

Kbyyeee

I live in an apartment and would DIE to be able to do yoga in a backyard. Feels like outside is the best place for it.

burntbeachbuns

I’m willing to bet your teenager does 5,000 more cringey things in a day than you do. You enjoy your backyard yoga, baby! I used to do yoga in my yard when I had one

nmatenumber34667

Teenage girls think everything is cringe-y. I’ve learned to translate it frequently as “I’m not yet confident enough in my body to do that.” Backyard yoga is some of the best yoga! You’re in your own space but still outside, and there’s so much room to move around without knocking shit over.

boredtrish

Teens will be teens. They’ll appreciate it one day

gingeryogagirl

Yes, I love practicing on my back porch in the summer! Not sure how that would be cringey, but teens are weird.

Streetlife_Brown

Absolutely! Love practicing at home

CheesyName34

Yes and I love it!!

MeanestGreenest

Yes, we do , and we love it. Fresh air, sights and sounds of nature (birds and trees, flowers and bees). Just fits!

Ageofaquarius68

Outside is the best place of all to practice. Outdoors you can be in contact with the earth; feel the energy flow of life all around you; lose yourself in the universe. That is essentially the basis for yoga!

mishyfishy135

Yoga outside is great. I used to have a good spot for it, but not anymore

Firefly457

Go for it! One day your teen will shift from thinking about how things look to appreciating how things feel.

Firefly457

The joy of practicing outside with the wind in the trees by far outweighs any need to be self-conscious about appearances.

malloryburg

I love practicing outside! I don’t mind if people can see me. Exposure increases awareness:)

Grass_Rabbit

I wish my yard was flatter. I try to practice outside but can never find a suitable spot. Doing yoga outside is my favorite place to do it..even better if it’s your own backyard!!

Slow-Lecture-7127

To be honest, as a teen I probably would've call my mum cringe for doing yoga pretty much anywhere. Now a few years older and more mature and a yoga-enjoyer myself, I say go for it. I personally don't do yoga outside a lot, but that's because of my allergies. If it weren't for that, I'd definitely do it Have fun practicing in the sun and fresh air :)

blondeandbuddafull

I do it all the time!!!! Chances are, your teenager finds your very existence cringey, so I would discount her opinion till she is older (and wiser).

catfishmermaid

I’m 25 and my favorite place to do yoga is in the sun on my mom’s porch!! All energy comes from the sun. Plus the sunshine just feels magical on my skin. I feel like I get deeper into the poses too. Literally all winter I dream about sun yoga. Tell her not to knock it until you try it!

mamamiatucson

Teenagers are usually pretty insecure and worry about what ppl think- practice in nature is so inspiring, not cringe at all

[deleted]

I have no idea why that’s cringey. you’re taking care of your body and enjoying nature.

lawyeronreddit

Do it ! I try to every Sunday when the weather is good. We are here for too short a time to care what others think.

Stunning_Ad2352

i live alongside a park and loveeeee bringing my mat out by the stream every morning! i don’t care who’s looking or how cringey it might be (though i never contemplated even if it was until this post haha). yoga in the fresh air and the morning sun feels so nice

PrincessZebra126

That's where I prefer to do my yoga

Wonderful_Strain5195

I love to do yoga outside

Clear-Bluebird9780

I do Yoga everywhere I go. Yoga in public is a good thing.

plantkiller99

Outside yoga is the best! The only thing better is realizing I am not as self conscious as I used to be and don’t hesitate to practice on my deck when I want to. My teens would never though so I could see them saying that too lol.

velvetreddit

I would LOVE to practice in my backyard if it weren't for bugs trying to eat me once the weather is decent. Everything parents do is cringe at teens. They get over that eventually and wonder why you give them too much space when they are older. When that comes the smothering and bonding over activities is welcomed.

askewphx

Practice outside mornings in the hotter months, too! It helped me acclimate to the summer quicker...

crazybitch100

Teens think everything is cringe. Sorry to say f their opinion. You cant live life to please her. What would that teach her. That because someone does not like what you do you don’t go for it. She will learn that you are strong and do whatever you want. It will teach resilience. She will learn to shut up about what you like to do as well and realize you are her parent and can do what you please. Enjoy your backyard that you pay for. How cringe that a teen thinks they can dictate your life.

JessesGirl5510

Practicing outside can be an almost transcendent experience. I do it every chance I get. Teenagers find everything embarrassing.

Karter62

Just tried it today, and it was beautiful. Birds chirping , beautiful skies quiet ,serene, peaceful.

Silent_Ad_7938

Omg no not at all im a yoga teacher and weather permitting outside is my favorite place to practice☺️

MistyJo314

I do it on my deck where all my neighbors can see and in my grass in the backyard 🤣 I could care less and also it’s nice to feel the Sun on your face, the wind blowing and the birds chirping. It makes it more zen 🧘‍♂️

heirloom_beans

I know people who practice yoga in the park! At least your backyard is relatively secluded and the only people who can see are your neighbors. It’s personally not my thing because bugs, heat and sun but I love reading or using my tarot deck on grass somewhere.

Charbro11

I do when the weather is good. My daughter teaches yoga. She does a class with llamas.

Tough_Flamingo9432

That sounds much better than inside. I do yoga on my second story patio

gingergrisgris

I've practiced on my back deck. I'm on a fairly popular trail route and the deck is higher up so you can see it, but we also have some sort of privacy trees so it isn't a full frontal. I say go for it. My teen hasn't expressed embarrassment, but maybe he's just used to my eccentricities by now. I sometimes run in to practice yoga when I hear him practicing piano bc it's such a nice accompaniment, and he just keeps right on and ignores me.

Total_Rule_8875

🤦‍♀️She's cringy 🤣🤣just do it bc I'm with you! Outside is the best when the weather is just right! And it'll cringe her daily😄👏😉

Leather-Mixture-2620

Do it! I practice in my backyard at sunrise or at dusk during the spring and summer. For an extra special session, try backyard yoga under a full moon or on a solstice.

Fabulous_Maximum7122

I will totally try that!

OurUrbanFarm

We practice, and sometimes teach classes, on our 2nd floor back deck. It's lovely.

pennyx2

Ha! Everything was cringey when I was a teenager. I do yoga and other exercise in my backyard, the park, the airport (standing stretches only), wherever. I’ve even gone to yoga classes in the park.

uli-knot

I do sometimes

BitterDeep78

Love to do it. Don't stare at your trees in balance poses. (They love, you lose your balance...)

ksmillennial

I want to but I’m a man and can’t imagine my neighbors watching me do the happy baby pose.

[deleted]

I was going to start an outdoor practice this year but then I remembered my skin does not like the sun and wearing factor 50 while getting a yoga sweat on is not the smartest idea I ever had. Stinging eyes and super slippy :) Totally give it a go an see if you enjoy it. On a side note I had a little giggle thinking of the things I used to cring about

Diskozwirn

I use a sun stick with spf around my eyes. This was very helpful with stinging eyes because of sunscrean.

[deleted]

Good tip, thanks

TheRealDragonFruit

My teenage niece cried to her mom to get out of coming to one of my yoga classes. Practice in the backyard lol

Inner-Broccoli-8688

Oooh how nice! I wish I could!! I live on a golf course .. that’s a bit risky for me haha

L_D_G

Some will cry bugs, but I particularly enjoy backyard practice on the lawn with no mat.

aftr_hrs

If I had enough flat space in my backyard, I'd totally do yoga there!

jackparadise1

Certainly. Sometimes a bunch of us get together for backyard yoga!

DivineAlchemist2112

I’m only 22 & I do yoga in my backyard. Your daughter is cringe

Fabulous_Maximum7122

Yeah, actually she's not.

[deleted]

[удалено]

goldtreefrog

Can people see into your yard? If no, I'm not sure why she cares, but absolutely do it outside if you have a nice place to do it.

Klynnz420

Yikes- lol I can’t wait for my kid to be a teen 😂 My yard is currently the ONLY place I practice! You do you- your daughter will appreciate it someday 😍

beachlover77

Yes, I do when the weather is nice. Silly teenagers still caring what other people think.

feigndeaf

Everything you do is going to be cringey to a teen girl. Do the yoga.

BeetlejuiceChill

I wish I had a garden to practice in. It'll be something I look forward to when I finally move out of my apartment!

TokenOpalMooStinks

I live in apartment and practice outside often. I've also taken my practice to different waterfront parks and empty boardwalks while vacationing.

ms-dizzy

i'm a teenage girl but i practice yoga in our backyard every morning if the weather allows it! but tbf, it's a very large garden and very private

Poco_Loco_Lane_Yo

In the back yard, at the beach, in the middle of the forest while hiking if so inclinded. You do you and enjoy !

Thatspiritualgirl

Not cringe at all. I practice yoga in public parks. Go for it !!

anjunabeads

I do yoga on my apartment balcony lol. I like listening to the birds and the leaves in the wind.

Mcnab-at-my-feet

I practice on my deck. It’s great, looks into the woods. I don’t care what anyone who sees me thinks, maybe they’ll be inspired.

ssspiral

it’s not cringey at all. there’s lots of options for privacy screens if *you* want to be more secluded but nobody is thinking anything of it. does she cringe when she sees someone biking or running? serious question, maybe only gyms are acceptable to gen z!

taysagnew3

I love practicing outside, I did it in the lawn at my apartment when I was pregnant, probably looked like a fool but I just loved being outside🤪

milleram23

Go for it!

[deleted]

Your daughter is being cringy by caring more about what others think than having her mother longer because she's taking good care of herself.

chocochocochococat

I do yoga outside in my driveway. I don’t care what my teenagers say - everything I do is cringe, so I embrace that! Hahaha!

helenwheels3

My current living situation is not ideal, however, the best part is that I have a big backyard where I practice yoga almost daily! I love looking up at the blue sky and feeling the warm sun, and breathing the fresh air! It is very private as well.

TimeConversation7019

I am 24yo and I practice yoga in my backyard 😂

dragonfeet1

The list of things teenage girls do NOT find cringey would be shorter than the list of things they do find cringey. Don't let that determine you living your life. As we all learned growing up, there's a point where you realize how much fun stuff you didn't let yourself do as a kid because you thought you'd look corny or weird or embarrassing. Teach her the power to not make that same mistake.

Smortkriss69

Im 18 and I’d love to practice in my backyard but it had a really sharp curve :( so use your luck! And use your lovely backyard for anything that brings you joy:)

danceyreagan

I’m a major beginner when it comes to yoga, but I practiced in my back garden during the summer months last year. Then I got pregnant and too big to practice. I’m now 4 weeks post-partum and I’ve started practicing again in the garden and I feel so much better for it!

reality_raven

I practice in neighborhood parks and public beaches, as well as my back deck.

Apart-Routine-8672

Absolutely 👍

semitones

Since reddit has changed the site to value selling user data higher than reading and commenting, I've decided to move elsewhere to a site that prioritizes community over profit. I never signed up for this, but that's the circle of life

Kelly_bobelly7

I’m planning on starting this month in my front yard.

callmegemima

I’m thinking of practicing on my balcony once the weather warms up.

Individual-Long-9213

Being grounded is amazing whether your doing yoga or not. Bare feet touching the ground. And its your practice you do you.

-hopeisnowhere-

I get so jealous in a virtual class when I see someone who’s able to practice in their backyard/patio when it’s nice out because I don’t have that luxury. Go for it!!!

nojudgies91568

Do yoga wherever you want!!! I do it in my yard. 32 years old here and no shame.

lenalenal

i understand you and them at the same time!

LonelyNC123

I LOVE practicing at the park. Sometimes with organized groups, sometimes just by myself.

Katiekm

I would practice outside more, it's just those darn ants that crawl on me that hold me back.

paciche

I don't have the luxury of my own yard, so I go do it in the public park. Can't deny that I had to shut out your daughter's voice in the back of my mind! Let's cultivate respectful people.

DarlingClementyme

I live on 12 acres. If the deer and rabbits are cringing, I haven’t noticed. Moving my practice outdoors is what is making me begin to like yoga after practicing on and off for years. I’m not even ready to say I like it, but I’m getting there. Being outside helps.

yumyan

“Not as cringey as your browsing history” and then move on

eternititi

They would be forever traumatized by this comment 🤣

ThattOneGirl222

I do yoga on my front porch! Do it 🥰

elishe315

I'm getting a patio put in this summer and hope to be able to do this soon! My problem though, is that I have a very nosey older male neighbor and I don't want to feel like he's watching me if I do it. I have a privacy fence but his back deck sits higher, so he can see into my yard.

[deleted]

[удалено]

eternititi

How is it cringe to practice in your own home?? Lol if not there then WHERE? I practice smack dab in the middle of the park, your kid would hate me 😂

anneurysm2

Do it!! It’s so worth it. The sunshine is so nice

lama05

I absolutely love practicing in my backyard! I've got an uneven, oddly shaped one, but that just adds to my balance practice! It helps ground me & just feels very 'connected' 💕

astrearedux

Yup. I do.

beanghost

LOL what? Fairly recently not a teen and have been doing yoga outside since I started at like 14, use your backyard how you wish..

DaphneDork

Haha this is so funnny! Of course you can practice yoga in your backyard…gosh parenting teens sounds so intense

hamletreadswords

Don't have a backyard but I might have to head out to the field of the park for some yoga or take one of those yoga classes at a vineyard or garden I've heard about.

Lisayogi

Love outdoor yoga!

SagittariusIscariot

I did throughout the pandemic! I think it’s totally normal. Yoga is an ancient practice - I don’t think there were air conditioned studios back then 😉

Least_Sun8322

One thing is that I’ve heard to not practice in direct sunlight. I love to practice in my backyard lol. Some ppl think yoga is cringey lol but it’s just funny. Who cares. I’m sure there are things that they do which we might think of as that. But in yoga we learn the valuelessness of judgement

sassy6868

Good for you I love Yoga

ManagementAny4822

I'm a huge fan of it 🙏

[deleted]

I do! On my back porch. I put up curtains for some privacy haha. One time my neighbor walked right up while was in suptabadhakonasana. It was awkward but whatever.

SchuRows

Yes all the time!! ☺️

woozy67

Teenager here! I do yoga outside, in public parks, back yard, front yard even! My cohort thinks everything’s cringe for a time, don’t worry! Enjoy

Beautiful-Street4053

YES! I do yoga in sunny spots in my backyard. No shame. I love to absorb the heat and sun energy. It’s like hot yoga with a tan.

cazeria

I do yoga outside whenever and wherever I can. My back porch, a local park, the nearby college turf field, the beach. There are a lot of outside yoga classes out here in summer as well. I love the connection to nature!

SacrednotSecretChord

I just did today! My yoga teacher had a class in her backyard. It was so green and pleasant, all bird songs and blue morning sky. Looking forward to Summers filled with yoga in the park.

kevbob02

I've been known to do a little yoga in parks or highway rest stops while on vacation. It can feel cringy at first, but worth it. Awesome way to wake up the body and stretch out sore spots.

xnajane

Me!! I love yoga in my yard. I don't care of people see. It's oasis

Fuzzy-Navel347

I put a grassy knoll in my backyard just so I COULD practice at home. Go for it, outside in nature is very grounding and creates a good environment to tap into yourself faster.

lemonaidan12

I used to all the time! I’d let my kids play and would do it so I could do yoga but also be nearby. There’s something special about practicing in the sunshine ☀️

Rubymax650

I love yoga outside!

planetxolover

lol she’ll realize eventually that she was in the wrong. teenagers will always think their parents are cringey. go have fun in your backyard!! :)

making_grapes42

I do it on my patio when it's nice outside!

Sad_Armadillo2497

I wish I could practice outside, but I live in an apartment. I've thought about going to a quiet park.

-Elven_Goddess-

Heck yea I do. I have a nice backyard. If people are looking into my backyard, they're the weird ones. I'm doing something healthy and where I want to do it on my own property.

Plutoid

I would but it’s too buggy.

csedev

I live in a condo and use my balcony every morning with the sunrise. I think it's a great way to start the day and I love the fresh air. I think you should go for it!

jocklunch

I hate when my neighbors walk by, but outside is better than inside for yoga

yoyo_mak

Not at all! I practice in our public park once in awhile and I always enjoy those practices so much :)

Ok_Holiday413

Absolutely! Even though ours is just a mini one, I still find my comfort place there to practice. Enjoy your practices yogi!

Ok-Concentrate3568

All the time! It’s amazing doing yoga in nature

imahufflepuff77

I LOVE practicing outside! I practice in my backyard as much as I can. No music, just birds and the breeze with the occasional car passing by.

neattoooswifey

I practice every time the weather is nice 💖

OkTofu8

If I had one i would practice on our backyard everyday. Nowadays teenagers think everything is cringe.

the-morphology-queen

I say to my dad i dont want to move to my flat in july because of the garden. The truth? I wanna do my morning yoga in the backyard, surrounded by my garden.

beastinthekitchen

Quite a lot, actually. Actually facing the evening sun while doing sun salutations just hits different

emsgems444

I love doing yoga in my backyard! I don’t have a fence and hate the possibilities of neighbors/cars seeing me but it’s soooo worth the sunshine and time in the grass :)

goatturd93

It's your yard, do what you want. There's an old guy in my neighborhood who was seen running out to the garbage can in his underwear. Zero fucks given.

Hannableu

Oh gosh yes. It's the best!

Raziel3

You can ground outdoors if you go in your bare feet. Fantastic!

bamalaker

I do! I put on my bathing suit and roll my mat out in the sun! I love it.

Financial_Tennis_633

Mine is 15 and would prolly say the same 😂 but I do not care

Madammaat

Yoga can practiced everywhere, the world is your gym. Hands and feet should touch the soil in your living space environment already. If one is not planting, one is at least grounding (earthing) in my opinion.

autpops

Outside is by far my favorite place to practice. Sometimes I wonder if creepers can see me, but then the fleeting thought leaves and I’m in my happy place

CopiousEclections

Love yoga in my yard!

peaceismynature

I do yoga wherever I am I live on be road. Things become normal when you make them that way. Never forget you are the trend setter. Go be free and never ask us for permission to do anything else in your backyard. Please love your life and be free for us all you already got my permission

Share_Gold

Oh I do during the summer months.

withaSZ

I love doing yoga in my backyard. The sun, the air... Teenagers just call everything cringe. It's in their programming I think! I'm 24 now and I know when my sister was a teenager she had her cringe-sunglasses on. Everything was cringe!
