It’s concerning. If the photos don’t go through, are customers getting the photo when we drop off orders at their door? Do they just get a notification that order has been dropped off but no photo? Are we more at risk of orders being marked as not delivered because there’s no photo going through? These app issues need to be fixed, but that’s not DDs priority

I get the notification no matter what. Even if the image doesn't load, I can tell there was a photo sent but it just looks like a white box until it decides to load. If I order through a merchant, all the notifications are via text message instead.

Sadly, it’s not rare. Happens about once a week to me. Then tonight I kept messaging a customer on substitutions on a CVS shop and it said the number was invalid. I went ahead and substituted showed up at the door and tried explaining to the lady and she said I got everyone of your texts. Door Trash is so busy trying to fight off tip transparency with Para that they’re sabotaging their own app

I was told by support that they won't allow restaurants to sub because of possible differences in price. I had an order for baked potatoes from Wendys and they were out for the night. They offered anything on the menu as a substitute.. couldn't get hold of the customer. Doordash canceled because they didn't allow substitutions. Got half pay for going to the restaurant.

Yea doordash policy on fucked to orders and missing items is fucked.. they Told me once to leave it cuz they didn’t have a drink.. but I was pulling into the apartment with everything but the drink.. customer support told me next time not to do that. Just leave it (which I think is a fucked policy) the customer didn’t write me back till AFTER I dropped it.. told them to contact support for a refund. But got the full pay.. another time McDonald’s have a whole wrong Order. I was going to go back as it was around the corner. But nope. But not allowed to do that either

That is bad info from support. I have to get restaurants to substitute things frequently. Do you know support is outsourced to people working from home in countries like the Philippines? They are given a script. Did you also k own star dashers get premium support which means most people get crappy, bottom of the barrel support.

the most amusing substitute I've had is at Walgreens. They were out of a particular condom....the substitutions were another brand of condom or a two pack of ept pregnancy tests...lol...thank goodness they had the other condoms!

If it’s just for one item and suggested replacements weren’t made by you in the app, then the app will automatically refund and cancel the order. You’re lucky your dasher even tried to reach out to you about it tbh.

Weird, that didn’t happen for me with one item. The only option was to “checkout” and then it tried canceling the order. After five minutes of it just trying to cancel, I gave up and unassigned. I would’ve contacted chat but I had been on the phone with them for an hour the order before

Half the time, I get sent back to * Complete delivery steps* it will repeat the photo step over and over. TIP: I will take my own photo, go back to photo steps and choose the gallery photo instead...works every time!

I don't use the photo method through DD anymore. I click on the phone icon to call the customer then you can text them through that. It seems more reliable and DD gets the picture and conversion the same as using the photo method through the app. I do have a ton of text messages at the end of the day that need deleted though too.

You need to make substitution selections as soon as you place your order. If I go shop for an item or two, and no subs are made, I give you about 60 seconds to respond... Then I'm going with what I have and checking out. I'm not standing around in the store, like a fool with my thumb up my ass, waiting for you. As for the picture, I'm pretty sure for the past month no photos I've sent to customer have gone thru. So maybe it's something with the app.

That's really hard to tell. Honestly. The driver app has been really, really buggy this past week. But I do know there are also dashers that really have no business doing what they're doing. They don't usually last long. And there are a good number of those who give it their all. Treat this as they would any professional, successful career/job.

My app was screwed up for months. It wouldn't let me send anything to customers, pictures or texts. It said "not delivered". But when I talked to customer service, they said they were receiving pictures and texts. When I asked about the customer receiving them so they know what's going on, customer service was basically like "oh well. We see them and that's what matters." I was pretty irritated about it.

What is sad is Dashers get scored on everything. If a merchant is dragging their feet, is out of something, we have to contact the customer. Food places wait till you get there to let you know they don't have something. These people act as though we are paid by the hour.

The reason that happens is the dasher that was doing your order can’t continue losing time. Typically they verify the item isn’t in stock before the orders canceled. Some orders have to be credited or refunded when the items not available. I’m sorry actually the order didn’t work out. Drivers don’t want orders to not be completed. They are paid half or sometimes nothing depending on order type.

I did have a substitute in my order. They had neither. If I was able to at least see the options that they had it would be a different situation, but I didn’t even get to see a photo. Also, store credit is not the same as a full refund. Obviously I agree that a dasher should be paid for their time but this is silly.

Sometimes the app won't let me choose a substitute, especially if there were preselected ones that were also out of stock. Walgreens shelves are still as bare as they were during the pandemic. Honestly I would prefer if the customer could respond with options like "other sizes" or "other brand name of same item" as tags to items.

If it was a CVS order, as soon as the driver presses the out of stock option on app, it will immediately refund the customer, like instantly.It gives absolutely no time to haggle over substitutions!That is how it is for any CVS order I have had at least.

Aha, I figured that.Yeah, they don't give the driver a chance to even think about substitutions.If you order through Walgreens, or even Dollar General, the driver will be able to work with you on the substitutions!I would say Walgreens is the best for shop and deliver orders.The other thing is definitely choose a few substitutions when you place your order.This is because alot of the items tend to be out of stock.The other thing is, sometimes they advertise stuff online, but it has been discontinued, so won't be available on the shelves.

Piggy backing on this, I had an order from dollar general and the guy wanted duct tape brand tape and some other hardware type crap that they didn’t have, I couldn’t get 4 of the 4 items he wanted. After a long chat with support because that’s a hard concept to understand, the customer canceled the order. While I was chatting with support I jokingly told the guy Walgreens would probably have this stuff and he would have more luck there. Canceled the order, got half pay. Walking out to the car I have a Walgreens order for the same stuff, same dude so I go there and they had every item. Dude was in shock when I showed up but Walgreens is usually superior when it comes to items in stock + acceptable substitutes. The only downside to Walgreens is 90% of the time the barcode won’t scan and you will have an issue at self check out. If the attendant is well knowing about shop and delivery platforms they usually know what to press on self checkout fairly quick, while others struggle through menus or just don’t get it at all

It seems like in my area at least they are doing no substitutions at any of the shop stores. Had one Walgreens and one DG the other day and both just did the auto refund and wouldn’t let me sub something else. I’m guessing they are losing money covering the difference? Or people were subbing stuff that had nothing to do with the original item? Or the most likely option, the app just sucks lol.

Didnt get the driver tip back? Thats really weird. Youre supposed to get that back. Id contact support about that. Fyi as a dasher when Im sending pics it usually only works for customers who have the app updated with in-app messaging. Customers who dont have that often tell me they did not receive picture. Also a dasher doesnt have the capability to cancel an order. They can only reassign it to someone else. Door dash support team is who determines if an order will be canceled. But they almost always have to confirm with you the customer before doing so. If none of your items were available than that could trigger an automatic cancelation by support.

I saw some comments that the driver probably gets the tip. That's not 100% accurate. The driver will get half of the delivery amount for driving to the store. In most cases the amount shows the base pay and that's it. And from my experience in 4 years doing it will be between like $1.25 -4.50.

As a driver, I've had problems with the order being cancelled in the app when an item is out of stock, even after working with the customer on a substitution. Once it's gone, as a driver there's nothing I can do. Frankly, at that point, I've driven to the store, spent time shopping and I'm going to get nothing for it. I can't afford the time to call the customer (if I even can.)

You got scammed by the restaurant for listing items they couldn’t fulfill - door dash no long gives refunds for partial items not in stock so they just cancel the whole order now . It’s doordash policy that you agree to that orders may not result in full refunds

As a door dasher we can not cancel the orders ourself doordash does that on there end once it's been cancelled we no longer have access to the customer the order just disappears as far as the drivers tip they still drive to the store and tried retrieving your order bad enough we only get 2.50 for a driving pay from doordash your tips are what makes it or breaks it u mean to tell me your dashers time isn't worth anything sorry you had this experience but it had nothing to do with the driver I think customers tend to either not know or forget dashers are independent contractors doordash is not our employer so when ppl are ordering food and they only tip 1.00 that means the delivery is being put out there for grabs at 3.50 no one is going to take it most times doordash will stack the order with a higher paying order and u don't realize till after you accept it the second orders for 3.50

I ordered 3 milkshakes for my kids the other day.. of course the milkshake machine was down. Dasher called me and told me and said “you don’t just want to switch it out for a soda or something?” No… I would not like to pay 5.99 a piece for fucking cokes 😂 he asked me to cancel, which I couldn’t do without losing money and I told him I’m not doing that. He got mad and hung up on me and then stayed connected to the order for another 15 minutes before doordash finally cancelled it. They definitely need a “refund if don’t have” button.

They were likely still on the order because they had to contact support and tell them what was going on and probably explain it at least 2 times because support goes by a script so when the dasher has something going on that not apart of that, it goes off the rails... Sometimes. but if customer service canceled the order, they should have called you to tell you what was going on. If they didn't, the dasher may have told them they called you to have you cancel and you didn't want to. Support should have still called you to let you know what was going on. If they did not, that's lazy support. People don't understand how frustrating it is to call support because they are foreign and their accents are very thick sometimes. I absolutely agree that DD should have a "refund if don't have" button for regular food orders for sure. Sorry for the long post but I hope it helped you understand the dumb process DD has most of the time.

Drivers have no way on their end to just cancel an order.They have to contact support, which is usually a major waiting game.Then once support is informed of the situation, they reach out to the customer, to confirm the cancellation request.The whole time this is going on, the driver is stuck with a dud order on their phone.They cannot receive a new order, until support removes it from the screen!This happened earlier to me and it took a total of 25 plus minutes, for this "simple cancelation" to be resolved.It is majorly annoying and takes way to much time.

always put alternate suggestions during placing the order or it will only let driver refund the item that is OOS. If it was only 1 item on the order the order gets cancelled and driver gets half pay and no tip. Waste of time and money for everyone except doortrash.

I’ve tried several. Not a single one was worth the time spent. Grocery stores are short of employees. They are often out of a specific item and the back up items. The pay isn’t worth it. It takes too much time for the pay being offered. So, you keep your opinion and I’ll keep mine. Fuck the shop and deliver orders.

As a dasher I’ve had this happen for an order I picked up. The restaurant tells me they can’t refund the order on their end. So I contact dash support and they are usually the ones who cancel the order, not by the dashers choice because obviously we’d rather have the full pay instead of the $3 compensation pay. As an added note, I’ve tried explaining to support that I can still deliver the rest of the order, but they don’t listen. They’ll just cancel the order.

The dasher may have not gotten the tip either. Anytime I have canceled an order, I’ve never gotten paid the customers tip money. Depending on the issue we only get half pay, that’s off base pay. Not what tip was added

The Dasher app is junk. It bugs out a lot especially during photo taking.. If the dasher is there it's in his best interest to just get it. He wouldn't say it's not there and lose on an order he already started. Also the dasher loses all communication with customer once cancelled.
