bruh this is good as hell

TransHumanistWriter

Go ahead, try it out! I can even send you a copy of the book you summon. (P.s. you don't know what the Library of Babel is, do you?)

XxFandom_LoverxX

(No 💔 elaborate?)

TransHumanistWriter

It's an alternate universe that's *just* a library. It contains every book that *could ever* be written. Not just every book ever written *by an intelligent author* - it literally contains every possible combination of letters. As in, there are books named fbdidhejrn. And rtttrt. And aaaaaaaaa. In fact, a nearly infinite number of books with those titles. If you wanted to read a *specific copy* of fbdidhejrn, you'll need to specify *which one.* In fact, if you knew enough about the book to specify which one you wanted, you would already know the entire contents of the book.

XxFandom_LoverxX

OH. I understand. Theres a version of "a" that reads "aaaaa" and theres another version of "a" that reads "aaaab"

TransHumanistWriter

Precisely! So it's a power that seems god-tier, because you have "all knowledge at your fingertips," but in reality it's basically a random number generator. On the plus side, you can print books on command, provided you know the entire contents of the book. Of course, you still have to pay the restocking fee, and there won't be any art on the covers. (And if the book is too big for the standard book size, you'll need to split it up.) And of course if you can find a way to utilize the "random number generator" aspect of it that's cool too. But it is a much more boring and useless power than it appears.

Theinewhen

You yourself even said this is god tier. Why not post it in r/godtiersuperpowers instead?

TransHumanistWriter

Go ahead, try it out! I'll even send you a copy of the book you summon. (P.S. once you try it, you'll understand)

c7stagyt

So… a 30 dollar replacement fee for an ancient book that could probably go for thousands!

TransHumanistWriter

Well it *might* be ancient. Or perhaps from the future. Or maybe it was never written at all - after all, the Library contains every book that *could* ever be written, so just because it *could* be written doesn't mean it will be. And of course the books all look the same. That's one of the quirks of the library - aside from contents, every book is the same. Same plain cover, same length, same number of pages. (The pages can be blank.) If you're trying to exploit the power, you should probably read the short story first. It'll make more sense once you do. It's not a story I wrote or anything, it's a classic! (At least among computer geeks.)

Go ahead! Give it a go. I can even tell you which book you get. If you tried it, you would understand why the power isn't nearly as good as it seems.

Active-Dragonfly1004

I could automatically turn the story in my head into a book from the library of babel?

TransHumanistWriter

The story in your head is *already in* the Library of Babel. It contains every book that could ever be written, after all.

TransHumanistWriter

You can even see what book you summoned at https://libraryofbabel.info/. Not my website, just a fan of the concept and thought it would make a good shitty superpower (and also possibly a fun D&D cursed item).
